I notice the Colonel hasn't updated them since March. Anyone know how he is doing? By the way, do a search, and go back to some of his writing. Some REAL gems from the guy. Love him, or not, he is entertaining! I sure hope his health is o.k.. Best wishes, to you Colonel Cooper. Dave

bad LT, thanks, I hadn't opened the "archive news". I wish Mr Cooper the best. The guy has had a good run. I'm hoping he has some more!

He has a book (mentioned in the March commentaries) that is supposed to be out some time this summer. I got the notice about the special edition in May, but it wasn't more specific about the publication date.

Just read them, thanks.:)

Had to drop Jeff a note concerning the 3350 engine. It was a great engine, but the P&W 4360 used on the B-36 was far more powerful.

So, how old is Col Cooper now? He must be pushing 90 or so. Hope he does well with his current illness.

I've been reading articles by the good Colonel a lot of years. While I occasionally disagree with him on some thing or other , most times I am in agreement with his opinion(s). This will undoubtedly upset some here that carry the smaller guns, but one of his quotes that has stuck with me concerns the .32 auto. "People shot with this round tend to become emotional and resort to violence".:uhoh:

Among my fondest possessions is a personally autographed copy of the good Col. Cooper's classic book "To Ride, Shoot Straight, And Speak The Truth." While his occasionally-imperious style may chafe the urban-insecure/delicate-academic types, his strong opinions are heavily grounded in practical experience and common sense.

In addition to his invaluable "Principles Of Personal Defense," ANYTHING he's ever written makes a marvelous litmus test of latent liberal-pacifist Sheeple-think... simply because Jeff Cooper's intrinsic mindset drives 'em nuts.

If you doubt this, just give copies of his P.O.P.D. booklet to your, umm, "progressive" (*cough*) friends for Christmas. Then, stand-by for their indignant howls of outrage, snide comments... and sneaky little games/tricks to marginalize you, discriminate against you, and undermine your professional standing.

In short, Jeff Cooper's accumulated Street Sense, Been-There Warrior Wisdom, and old-fashioned values are a threat to those who wish to replace individual responsibility with intrusive collectivist programs "For The Common Good," disarm us, and destroy the U.S. with politically correct multi-culturalism.

I guess I'm too dense to figure out the nature of his illness. I clicked on "Archive News", but didn't see any clues?

The earliest of Cooper's books I have is "Fighting Handguns" 1958 .He's 86 [obvious if he was born in 1920 !!] and might be expected to have some problems. Why some can't stand him is that he's a real man and doesn't suffer fools !!!

There's only one colonel who's opinion ever meant anything to me.

When Cooper comes up with 11 herbs and spices maybe i'll listen to him too.

I hope the Colonel's health improves.

I enjoy his commentaries, though over the years my opinion has shift some from him regarding acceptable calibers.

From what I understand, he favors ball ammo (exclusivly) in all autoloading calibers for reliability. If that is the case, it's easy to understand his disstane for smaller calibers. I don't think his comments regarding acceptable calibers are as accurate if you use / carry HPs as most of us do.
