Jerk at a gunshow

I run into the same problem going through airport checks. I'm a 5'11" average white guy with blue eyes, not much of an acent and I'm gerernally good natured. I have a military hair cut (Captain in the Marine Corps) and i still get pulled aside after walking through the metal detector ( after it doesn't go off, and I was ID'd by the guy before the metal check). I happens so often its almost a joke to me, why i always wonder, but i understand security and I'd rather stand there for 3 minutes while they check me again, than there be another attack.

I'm not saying you in any way could be a terroist, its just that you have to realize people are scared of all things now days, and I'd have let them check me out and then looked at the guy knowing now I'm in control of the deal. In negoitations, any mistake or weakness and you are done. I would have taken advantage and pushed hard for a killer deal.

I don't think your actions changed that guy one bit in the slightest, if that was your goal maybe another tactic would be better. There will be a next time, so might as well get used to it.

To me it matters all in how the suspicion is presented. Just because you were vetted at the front doesn't mean the dealer would be immune from prosecution (if, for example, the building staff got in through 'the back door'). From your account it sounds to me like he was only being cautious and tried to make amends when you checked out. I would not have taken offense.

Oh well this is reality intoday 's world . We have to accept the facts . Racial profiling is part and partial in all of these. It has it s usefulness and bad sides. One has to be prepared when its ugly side shows up in your face especially living in America.
If one is in Italy, for example, the security authorities would profile non Italians such as Romanos, gypsies , Khazars, Tartars, Huns, Greekos, Turks and North AFricans --making their judgments based on how they would look , verbal accent and behavior....

Other than that we live another day...

You chose not to do business with the man. I guess you punished him enough. Now, why don't you just get over it?

It's your right to be offended, but I think I would have taken him up on the discount and free beef jerky. It was a little insulting, but the guy tried hard to make up for it.

Maybe you would have been less offended if he hadn't said why he had you checked out again, but at least he was being honest about it.

I am also a member of WAC. Your WAC ID card (which is supposed to be visible anyway) should have been enough.

Since the guy seemed totally oblivious to your feelings in the matter, I wouldn't blame him for anything other than being an ignorant idiot... but I might have explained to him that what he did could be construed as offensive to you. He likely would never have considered that.... but then again, it's not your job to teach... :)

Sorry to hear you turned down a deal that you wanted

Thank Mayor Bloomberg and his pack of lawyers, sorry, but most likely they suppected something like that, kinda pisses me off, but that is life. The only part I think was rude was that he called security, he should have just asked for ID himself.

Steel185, you do know that flashing DOD ID is a free pass at the airport for additional screening. I know that because when I was in the service I always got the "can you step over here please sir" I usually either just smiled with my ID car held in their face, or said, sure, I'll help you make your numbers.

Same thing, just people trying to be safe in a rabid climate today, even with the court victories, we still have to work for more understanding of what RKBA really means, and sometimes that includes showing ID to prove that your civil rights are intact.

Saturno, it all depends where precisely your italian accent comes from ! being half Italian myself (from my father), I wouldnt trust a fair amount of Italians.. :p

I would have walked too; the fact that he was fine selling you the guns but then all of a sudden had a problem when you pulled out one for trade.

What that jerk did was very unAmerican. I suggest to call this

Give the name , date , time and place of incident.

Will see how ACLU would act on this one.

I'm not saying what he did was right. I wasn't there, so only you know the tone and whether or not his actions were malicious. I do have one question though.
I am a 29 year old white male. I'm originally from Alabama, but have lived in Arkansas and Mississippi most of my life, so I have a heavy Southern accent.
How would I be treated if I moved to Italy and tried to buy a firearm?
Not trying to be a smart aleck, just seriously wandering.

Considering that no laws were borken and no ones rights were infinged I doubt that would help at all. i dont suspect the ACLU are very interested in the goings-on at a gun show in the first place. At the most extreme the seller could be labeled a bigot.

I have a great deal of Cherokee blood in my heritage and I have been cursed at and told to 'go back to mexico' because I tan so dark working outside in the summer. Just a part of living in the south.

In Switzerland, you would have to show an ID, prooving that you are a swiss citizen, or a permanent resident (C permit), at least.

Some permanent resident cannot even get a gun (there is a list, countries like : Serbia, Albania, Algeria, Turkey).. Their government specifically instructed Switzerland not to deliver any firearm to their citizens.

Cherokee blood ! now that is classy ! be proud

"F" that guy.
Who appointed his sorry self as a firing squad?
The guard was doing his job and cleared you.

I would not cancel my membership.
I would show that guy an interesting storage place for his jerky.

I believe any one appearing to be a foreigner will get second looks natives don't.
