Which doesn't say much, because a monomaniacal dyslexic bipolar chimpanzee with a nasty case of the mange would have been better than Janet Reno.

I find myself trying to be reassured when Ashcroft assures us that the Second Amendment guarantees the individual right to keep and bear arms, but I think actual reassurance will have to wait until he firmly backs up his words with actions.

Much of the 'reporting' on Aschroft I've seen has been very much on the 'personal destruction' side. Anybody remember the 'bare-breasted statue' incident? Here's a refresher in the form of my column from last year:

RATS. Can't find it. Gist of the story is that media widely reprted how the prudish Ashcroft had ordered drapes to cover the bare-breasted stsue of Justice in the DOJ foyer where AGs give press conferences, and what a twisted man this must be to do such a thing. Turns out that press folk had long been having their little joke by positioning themselves so that when they photographed JA giving a conference the huge left breast of the stsue would be nestled against his shoulder in the photo. To get the shot they would have to LIE ON THE FLOOR in a a particular spot, shooting upward while on their backs. Unbiased reporting, huh? So JA finally got sick of it and had the drapes put up. So ask me why I take the media characterization of JA with a big dose of salt.

Ashcroft is doing an excellent job. He has the terrorists on the run.

The results are that we haven't had another major terrorist attack within the US since 9 11 despite being such an open society with virtually zero loss of any freedom to the individual citizen. Such as no taking a pen knife on carry on on an airplace.

I am very impressed with Ashcroft's performance so far.

The proof of his success is also how much the left hates him.
