The former North Carolina senator stressed the need for a national energy policy in his address to more than 300 people at Benedict College. Edwards also answered questions from the crowd about sex education and gun rights.

``I do believe in the Second Amendment,'' Edwards said. ``People who use their guns for hunting ought to be able to do that ... but we don't need 6-year-old children shooting 6-year-old children with pistols.''

If you believed in the Second Amendment, you would not be voting for the ugly gun ban and gun show ban, while skipping the vote to ban .30-30 ammunition.

funny how his example of 'support' is something obvious. I dont think of any of us are advocating having our 5 and 6 year olds conceal carrying.

we don't need 6-year-old children shooting 6-year-old children with pistols.

The classic appeal to emotions. Wouldn't want people making decisions based on reason.

Remmer Vereen, a black math professor who supported Edwards in 2004, said he's feeling conflicted this time. He said he likes Clinton, but also is drawn to Obama because of race. That Edwards is originally from South Carolina is still a factor as well.

``This year is really confusing,'' Vereen said.

I don't know where to begin.

People who mention the Second Amendment and "hunting" in the same statement can't even grasp the obvious purpose of the 2A and will obviously not respect it.
It does NOT SAY "...the right of the People to keep and bear arms for hunting shall not be infringed"

[SARCASM]Tell me about it!!! I mean Clinton is a woman, but Obama is a really snappy dresser! We can't ignore the fact that Clinton's favorite tea is chamomile and she likes puppies, but on the other hand Obama does drive a Chevy and has a good sense of humor.[/SARCASM]

Those are the really important issues aren't they? It's a high-school student government popularity contest on a national, supposedly grown-up level...and the nitwits outnumber us.

I'm a member of the Libertarian Party, but a registered Dem so I can vote in their primaries.

And as a registered Democrat, I thought Edwards kind of got the 2nd Amendment. He can go pound sand, I'm not voting for him. :cuss:

Ah yes, the old "I support the second Amendment....

BUT..."

If "Support second amendment" is in any way followed by the word "but" then they do NOT support the second amendment.

"I support the Second Amendment" (but I haven't taken the time either read it or attempt to understand what it means.)

Hey John, there is nothing about hunting in the Second Amendment. It is all about the right of the people to defend themselves from politicians like you.

I Support

I support seat belt laws, but I think no one needs to be uncomfortable when they're driving.

I support the First Amendment, but I don't think we need 50 and 60 year olds saying offensive things to each other.

I support the Fourth Amendment, but you can't be sure if a person has that right until you're sure he's not a terrorist.

Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat.

As my son and his friends always say ...

"Everything before but is B** S***!"

Any statement or claim that includes the word "but" immediately erases or negates the first part.

The House and Senate have a lot of people that "support" the 2nd amendment, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Jan Schakowsky, Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein, Hillary Clinton, Jesse Jackson Jr., Barbara Boxer, et. al. They all "support it" ... for reasonable hunting guns, not those evil assault weapons that no one needs.

None of them have the guts to ever say they don't support any part of constitution they all swore to uphold and defend. They just support their unique "living and evolving" version of it.

These guys are all "stuck in the '90's". They should probably have their own MTV show where they can watch old Cindy Lauper and ABBA videos and talk about how Reagan almost ruined world peace by calling the Soviet Union "evil".

Actually, he was a trial attorney. And it just so happens that I am one.

Nonetheless, I'm quite sure that Edwards fully and completely supports the Second Amendment. That is the one that will become the Second, after he tries to repeal the one about hunting rifles ...

No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

Edwards is no longer a trial attorney. He got rich impersonating dead kids in front of juries in lawsuits against hospitals. I forget the details.

Southern Boy Syndrome - thinks he can get votes by pacifying Fudds in the South but placating soccer moms in the NE and CA.

Get out the O/U shotgun and play tough guy.

I believe in big white rabbits with top hats.
I believe in Whinni the Pooh.
I believe in fairies.
I believe in a lot of things I'm told are real.

The Silk Pony will have to retool his position statement. This one will cause him to lose his home state of SC and his state of residence NC. He's already having a hard time in both states.
