the price here local is 709 before tax... still, you purchased a good gun.. actually have the same gun... I recently (yesterday) upgraded to a new setup ,see my sore cheeks thread...hehe... but the sportical is a GREAT value. I set mine up with a reflex style red dot and had tons O fun with it.

in fact he did buy an assault weapon. one definition of an assault weapon is any military weapon used in the past or present, and militaries all over the world have had semi-auto.I.E. M-14,SKS,CETME.all are semi-auto and yet they are all classified as a assault weapon. and to get real technichal, your country, state, and local laws can classify a gun as a assault weapon. some things that make and assault weapon are detachable magazines, pistol grips, folding stocks etc.

check this out- http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/assault_weapon please reply if you think im wrong
Thank You for clearing that up for us

I disagree about your definition of "assault rifle", but whatever. You can't reason with the unreasonable, and you can't educate people that are dead set on maintaining ignorance.

BTW, anyone who uses Wiki-anything as a source is severely lacking, IMO.

Come on guys lets keep this about the gun the man bought and not the definition of an assault rifle. We dont want to get this thread locked.

Anyway, I have had a sportical for about a year now and Ive had nothing but good luck with it, Ive tinkered with a few things to make it my own and Im happy with. It may not be the best AR type rifle you can buy but its suits my needs well.

I have a DPMS and I love it! I would however order another barrel because DPMS barrels are not chrome lined.

If you went that route than you would have spent enough money to buy a rifle with a chrome lined bore. The Sportical is good for what it is, a lower priced entry level AR. Aslong as you keep it clean and take care of it than not having chrome lining wont be an issue.

CONGRATS on your new AR! it will serve you well! infact after a few trips to the range you may not see the need to ever own anouther AR besides the sportical.....

Interesting first and only post reviving a year old thread.

The correct definition is one capable of full auto.

Calling AR 15s "assault rifles" was started by the anti gunners and repeated over and over by the left leaning media to try to scare voters into voting for anti gun measures.

Plain and simple. End of story. It isn't about guns, it's about control over people.

That said, we don't do politics here.

When the OP (December 2008) purchased his AR the price he paid was not all that bad, considering the times. The DPMS Sportical is a solid rifle. Fortunately, prices are pretty much back to normal for now. Time to get em if you want em. I sure intend to add one to the fold in the coming months.

One thing about this site. There are always people to tell you you paid too much.
"Why, I got a LMT for $300 last week."
They will tell you whatever you got is a piece of crap. "Colts suck."
Someone will even tell you you should have bought a Glock.

My advice? Shoot it and enjoy it!

The OP really should have bought a Glock instead. I mean, really. He could've bought two Glock 22s for what he paid for the DPMS.

Good move. If, as seems the case, you aren't familiar with rifles, this one takes some getting used to. BEFORE you try to shoot it, make sure you are comfortable disassembling the rifle and putting it back together. Know how the gun works. It's not complex, but also not self-evident. I'd go on Amazon and get an instructional DVD. Or, look on YouTube.

No, they were worth about $650. Now, they are worth considerably more, and are likely to stay that way.

Yea, just like all the people that said we would never see gas below $4 again.
(by outerlimit, in response to the quote at the top)

Looks like outerlimit's crystal ball was zeroed in a year ago!

Hope the OP has enjoyed his DPMS! My buddy who "panicked" and bought a Bushmaster about the same time has been happy with it. He's felt it was worth the money at the time.

Don't worry about chrome lined barrels, the average shooter really doesn't need to worry about it...

Alost a year old and we are still telling the OP how good or bad his puchase was, LOL.

Really sucks for him when the paper today shows Sporticals on sale for Black Friday at $579.00 at Sportsmans. LCP's for $269.00

Before the OP thinks he didn't get the best deal, hey he got one and he's enjoyed it for a year already and with a little bit of luck he'll enjoy it for the rest of his life - pretty good deal when you amortise it that way.

And 'assault' is a verb, not an adjective. If I'm going to assault something in war I'm using artillery and air support; I'd mop things up with a rifle.

Good grief...I responded to a year old thread, never noticed the date..I'm sure he has
had a scope on it by now, an may of already traded it for another rifle...somebody dug this up to argue about what they think is assualt...?...good grief Charlie Brown.
Somebody feel free to.....LOCK.
