The wife's birthday was yesterday, so when I was contemplating on what to get her it dawned on me "Why not get her a gun?" 
I figure it was about time to upgrade her current pistol from her beloved Walther P22 to something with a bit more punch, and one that I was much more comfortable/confident in for her to carry since she has a CCL. I started brainstorming and doing a ton of research online to figure out what to get. I also went to a few local stores and fondled many guns to aid in my decision. Going into this ordeal the S&W 642 was immediately a definite front-runner, but since she currently has a semi-auto I thought it would be a good idea to look at a few of the subcompact semi-auto models currently on the market. She has shot my Glock 27 on several occassions and has told me many times that she couldn't stand shooting it and how ugly she thought it was, so unfortunately Glock was pretty much immediately out of contention. I looked at a few Sigs, XD's (if she thought the Glock was ugly then I KNOW she would think the same or worse of the XD), Kahrs, and Taurus'. After handling the various models from the above manufacturers I absolutely fell in love with the Taurus Millenium Pro line. Not because they were the least expensive (it was actually somewhat of a deterrant) but because they just felt better in my hand. Also the small grip on the 9mm and .40 models were the closest in feel to her P22. After reading all the mostly positive posts on here and other sites about the newest Millenium Pro line it took the top spot for the semi-auto's. Now came the hard choice: S&W 642 or the Taurus Millenium Pro? Initially I was really attracted to the simplicity and compactness of the 642, but had a few reservations about the capacity, round effectiveness through such a short barrel, and the displeasure a lot of owners stated of shooting more than 50 or so rounds per range session. Of course I had a few reservations about the Taurus too mainly the name stamped on the slide. I know Taurus makes a good product these days, but I'm just being honest. After mulling it over for a few weeks I decided to ignore my unwarranted prejudice against Taurus and go with the stainless SA/DA Millenium Pro 9mm. I made this choice for several reasons: The manual of arms is closer to what she currently has, ammo capacity is MUCH greater (13 vs. 5), ammo is more effective and cheaper, trigger is easier to pull, and the gun was reportedly a lot more fun to shoot for extended range sessions. After I gave it to her we immediately went to the local indoor range to put a few rounds through her new CCW. We fed it a total of about 100 rounds (a mixture of WWB fmj and UMC jhp) and to it's credit it functioned flawlessly. Even though about halfway through the session she started limp-wristing, probably from not shooting much in the past year or so, it didn't miss a beat. Not only was it reliable but it was pretty accurate to boot. I, I'm sorry WE, are very pleased in the little Taurus. If it continues to perform in this manner I sense it might have a big brother (PT145) join the family soon
