I've been saving to get a Socom16 for a while now and unfortunately my new C&R FFL has been slowly eating away at those funds. BUT, I'm will get the money for it. Then this morning I run across a post that has a link to the Vector's web site. I go there and find this V-51, which is like a HK MP5 varient. Now it has me me rethinking the Socom16 decision.

I'm mean, just for the cool factor the V-51 to me seems to beat out the Socom. Before I get flamed though, I know it's not about cool, but more along the lines of how it functions/accuracy etc for a rifle at this price.

Sooooo, what do you think? V-51/Socom16 Socom16/V-51 Hummmmmm Decisions decisions.

I'm baised. I hate old style construction like on the M14 and variants. So I'd go with the V51.

I hope to one day get a V53L.

The M1A variant looks like a M1A, butchered. The V-51 has much more potential. I would have to spring for the additional $200 to register the 10" barrel, which would make it a pure semi-auto copy of the H&K 51 (minor internal differences notwithstanding).

I've had the pleasure of standing directly behind a man firing a H&K 51 with a belt-feed modification. That thing is it's own weather system.

I haven't had enough time on the V-51 to get a good idea of the reliability, but word on the street is very good.

That said, the V-51 is the single least ergonomic firearm I have ever had the displeasure of handling. The design and layout is just horrible.

Get the SOCOM. I'm not a huge M-1a fan, but it's a better choice than the V-51.

I'd get an AR-10 of some sort (that DPMS 16" Carbine looks pretty darn sweet to me).

But from those two, I'd go for the SOCOM16.

Once upon a time, I had an HK-91. Amazingly accurate and dead nuts reliable, but I hated shooting it. Just flay out uncomfortable and unpleasant in several ways.

Currently I have a SOCOM 16..... and I've got to say, I love it!

A sheer pleasure to shoot, also reliable and accurate. What's not to like? It's my favorite rifle - and I have plenty of them to choose among.

:D
