Just got done casting some of my new 45 cal bullets. As with the 9mill bullets I started with it looks like the mold needs a little break in time. This mold seems to be pretty sensitive to the size of the sprue puddle, if its not just right, the bottom of the bullets don't fill out.

It is a custom mold from NOE.

It could be a clone, but I am not sure. I have not seen to many Lyman molds.

Those don't look too terrible, but I think if you added a little more heat to them they will fill out a bit better. Maybe even a touch of solder to the pot. Just guessing on that one though.

It won't be long till your throwing up picks of torn up targets and such.:D

I added some solder, after thinking bout it and sleeping on it, I think I just need to cast a little faster and bring the mold temp up. clarification

That's a good looking bullet there, what is the grain weight of those? Be sure to post a pic of a finished load, i'm curious to see where you're seating them.

Dave,

The mold number from the NOE site is 452 230Gr. HP RG4 cavity PB

It is a 4 banger

After getting to know her a little better to night I was able to make quite a few of these.

An HP mold can really teach you a lot about mold temp and lead temp. I have really learned a lot about keeping the mold temp up and the lead temp down. A thermometer is in the very near future.

My noe RG series molds like to be ran hot with hot alloy. You have to keep the hollow point pins hot or the nose will not fill out good. I get my best results when my alloy is between 725 and 750 degrees. You must get the mold up to temp, including pins, before you get good bullets.

Well I finished my load work up. I started out with Unique since it has been my go to powder for all my other loads. But since I had some WSF on hand for shot shells, I decided to load up a few to test as well. I am glad I did, the best group I got with Unique was quite sad, but the minimum charge of WSF was quite good. I went from over six inches at about 15 yards to about 6 inches.

I just loaded up a dozen today with 8.5 grains of Unique obliviously in .45 Colt. My NOE mold is a 2 banger and the smaller hollow point. Weight sized and lubed were 239.5 grains. Must be the difference between the large and small HP.

Last 8 shots at 15 yards grouped pretty good after I figured out how to line up the sights. ;)

I got my mold a few weeks ago, but it has been way too warm out to cast. My mold took a lot of fast casting to get up to temp. Good news is it will work better every time you use it if you get it hot and keep it hot. :D

I found out with the 9mill hp mold that the hotter the mold and the colder the lead the better the bullets. The second time I cast with the 45 cal mold, it behaved as the 9mill mold did, hot mold cooler lead made some really nice looking bullets.
