I went through the orientation at Douglas Ridge Rifle club yesterday and am now a member. Very nice facility with the only 1,000 yard range in Oregon. A pretty far peace for me to go, but it is in some beautiful country near the Clackamas river.

Any other High Roaders members there?

Without going into a lot of detail. The "EPA issues" are the result of a disgruntled former member that was kicked out by the club. Basically nuisance lawsuits. All six went through a second appeals process and 5 of the six were dismissed on appeal. The sixth is expected to be dismissed shortly. I don't run the club, but I'd like to see them countersue on the basis of frivolous lawsuits.

Where abouts are you in the Cascade foothills? If you're close enough I would be glad to show you the range.

I know of at least one other member here who's a member there. For his privacy, I'll let him mention his name, but he once invited me out and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I went on a Monday afternoon, and there were about 6 people there, including a husband/wife duo with mil-surp rifles and practicing pistols, an elderly gent with a chronograph and a new rifle, and a few others. We were just on the 100 yard course.

I've suggested, Cougfan, on the "Moving to Portland" thread in the Rallying Point section, that, since they do have a 1,000 yard range, it might be a great place for a metro Portland Appleseed shoot. Now that you're a member, maybe that could be easier to talk about/plan.

I've been a DRRC member for a bit over 4 years now. I live only 20-25 minutes away so it's pretty convenient for me.

I was a member there for several years in the 80's. Nice club. For my present range needs, the Estacada Rod and Gun club down the road is sufficient, so I now belong there.

Nice range. I do remember firing a highpower match during an intense all-day rain there once. It was so bad the clip well of the M1 started filling up.

After the last relay the sun broke through the clouds and the rain quit.

I do not much care for rain.

Wondering...

Cougfan2 - I have gone back and forth about joining Douglas ridge for a couple months now, but am waiting because of the EPA issues... i.e. I don't want to join and then lose my dues and initiation fees because the place gets shut down. Did the club management say anything about that when you were taking the tour or doing the orientation?
