I picked up a Sig P238 yesterday at the Ft. Worth Gunshow, after giving up on the one I ordered from my lgs last march. I only saw 2 of these among the hundreds of, (thousands?) of other sigs there so they are hard to find. This one with night sights was $579 plus tax, steep, but so are all Sigs. Comes with only one mag but The lgs received the extra mag I ordered when I ordered the pistol that never came, so I'll have two. In keeping with Sig's habit of overcharging for everything, the extra mag was over $50, when taxes in the great state of TAXES are included.
Brought the gun home, drained the oil and headed for the range. I shot 150 rounds of Blazer brass fmj, Blazer aluminum fmj, WWB fmj, Independence fmj and finished off with 12 rounds of Cor Bon JHP. There was never a hiccup, it performed flawlessly. I punched one hole about an inch across at 7 yards about as fast as I could pull the trigger. I have NEVER fired ANY pistol other than a .22, that controls recoil as well! The gun just doesn't get off target like other small handguns I have fired. It is waaaaay ahead of any Kel Tec, LCP, Bersa thunder or others I own or have fired.
The trigger is great, easy to ride the reset, very little slack or overtravel.
I have no qualms about carrying it in my Nemesis pocket holster cocked and locked. The thumb safety is very solid and can't just be accidentally bumped off. You have to want to move it. IF... IF it did get bumped off safety, the Nemesis is as thick as an elephant hide so the trigger is not going to get "bumped" and cause an AD.
I can't find a single fault with the 238. There was an "upgrade", since Sig doesn't have recalls on some early models but I checked the serial number before I bought this one and it doesn't have the issue.
Another plus, well maybe not, is that my weakling wife, 5' and 104 lbs can rack the slide. The ONLY semi auto she has ever been able to do this with.
If these little guns cost a couple hundred less, I suspect there would be lots of other BUGs being traded in.

i saw one at academy sports in Gadsden al for about 429 and almost bought it. I've seen a few reviews on youtube and a lot of super positive reviews in the forums (fora?). The pistol from all reports handles better than any 380 out there, is highly accurate, and is super controllable as you've stated. Perhaps I should go back and get it. I really like my mouseguns and there's always room for another. I hear the 238 shoots the way the LCP should. I have an lcp and i'd like to use it as a range gun but it just is uncomfortable to shoot and the trigger pull is way long. Should have had Kahr do the trigger:)
Congrats on your wonderful pistol!

Was looking at one of those for the wife a last week. However with the severe shortage of .380 around here we ended up with a Walther PPS in .40. The P238 is at the top of my list once the ammo comes back.

I wish it came in a DA/SA or DAO. I just don't fancy a SA pocket gun.

If you want one in DAO, look for a Colt Pony.

The SIG P-238 is a clone of the Colt Mustang (SIG bought the rights & tooling from Colt) and the Colt Pony was the DAO version of the Colt Mustang.

That is a beautiful gun. It would be perfect were it not for the anemic mag capacity. Still, if I could get one at a reasonable price, I would probably jump on it. How does it compare in size to the Bersa .380?

It's much smaller than the Bersa .380 which I own the BT and The CC model. I don't consider the Cor Bon version a small round. The 238 is NOT a big gun. Slightly bigger than an LCP. Look at the pic in my hand and I don't have big hands. YMMV but I am totally impressed with this gun. I buy a new gun of some kind about once a month. Few impress me like this one. Shoot it if you don't believe it.

I agree with Old Navy 100%. I bought my SIG P238 two weeks ago and I have put 425 flawless rounds through it. I've shot both ball and JHPs, the little SIG eats anything I've fed it.

This pistol is by far the best shooting 380acp I've ever shot.

Best regards.

If you want a greater mag capacity, there are 7 round Colt Mustang mags that work perfectly, as do the 6 round Colt mags. Great pistol.

I bought mine last week and only have 50 rounds threw it,but its been flawless so far.Was $460 plus tax.
It fits perfectly in my back pocket as a back up.
My sights are a bit off,and ill have them pushed and corrected. My time at the range was a DNR outdoor range and you are stuck shooting at 25 yards and despite that i was still grouping my shots.

Dear Sig. Thank you for not putting an ambi safety on the P238. Otherwise, I'd be be frantically searching the house for the necessary change needed to put one of those babies on order.

Craig - Dang those grips look stellar along with the bi-tone 238.

Sadly that worked against me,i didn't know it until i bought the gun.No matter i would have still gotten it.
I bought my gun to be a back up gun which id carry accessible to my weak hand, thats my left hand btw. With it in my rear pocket with no ambi safety ill be struggling to get the safety off one handed. The odds ill ever need it are low,and i can just put it in my right hand once i have it out.
How i didn't see this issue prior im not sure, but it does help it be thinner in the pocket.

the extra mag was over $50

Nuts :barf:

Sounds like a price mistake. Run back and get it!

I'd buy one fast if they made it with stainless frame instead of aluminum.

Most of the time I would agree with you on that, but this is a pocket .380, so the weight savings is preferable in my opinion.

Now.. has anyone had any problems with activating that little frame safety while shooting? I always used to have that problem with the Beretta Jetfire.

425 rounds through mine without an issue. Now I ride the safety just like my 1911s, so I can't see how that would ever happen to me.

Best regards.

The fact that it is SA, cocked and locked is the only reason I'd ever consider a $600 .380 pistol!

Sig decided to offer their P232 in an all stainless version for those of us who prefer it, I hope they do it again with this gun.

I carry a Keltec, which doesn't weigh much and which I have no desire to keep for thousands of rounds of potential shooting, though it may be capable of it. It's the only gun I own that has rust on it because I carry it daily and sweat and 4140 steel will conspire together to rust, and I couldn't care less because it's not a treasure to me.
I know my opinions aren't shared by most shooters but all my other guns are personal treasures to me, and aluminum and plastic framed guns don't fit my own idea of treasures.

Or to state it another way, this gun would be a treasure to me if they made it with an optional stainless frame. :)

It's a nice gun, and a good-looking gun to boot. But the best-ever? You quickly climb in the arena with some tall company when you talk about the best-ever. The Walther TP and TPH models come to mind, as do any number of other classics ... like the 1903 Colt Hammerless. The SIG is nice gun, though -- no question.

Metalform was OEM for the Mustang mags and work perfectly in the 238. I bought mine for $13.99 each. Those are gone but can still be ordered well under $50 on Gunbroker, or directly from Metalform. To me Metalform makes some of the best mags available. The ones on Gunbroker, unless stated to be SIG factory, are listed as Metalform. The only difference with the Metalform is that the front of the mag plate sticks out just a bit. I don't find that to be an issue as it offers a nice unobtrusive index point. I think single mags are going for a bit under $30 and even less when bought two or three at time.

My mustang is my favorite .380 pocket pistol. It weighs more than my LCP and is a little bigger but it is 10x the shooter that the LCP is.

I keep wanting a to buy a Sig because the value of the mustang has increased so much. Every time I think about it I get drawn back to a PM9. On paper they are the same size and weight. I was comparing them side by side the other week and they are very close in size and weight. The increased power along with more readily available ammo keeps me thinking maybe I should get the PM9 first.
