I just went and put my money on the counter and orderd a new Savage .375 H&H. I've done some research and found that the 375 H&H is a great bullet that has been around a long time so I wanted to add one to my safe.

Anyone have a .375 H&H and have any feedback?

Hi Bulldog...

It's a surprise (to me) that Savage has a .375 H&H offering. Which Savage model did you order ?

I've shot the .375 H&H in Winchesters and Kleingunthers and it is a hoot to shoot but also will give you a workout. Have shot them only out to 100 yds. but all that I shot (about 7 or 8 different rifles) were surprisingly accurate. I'm pretty sure any groups over 2" were my fault.

Ah ! Didn't see the little .375 note at the bottom.

Wonder what that one will weigh.

Are you going to scope it or put some type of "express rifle" open sights on it ?

Like I said they are an absolute blast to shoot - pun intended - but they will definitely keep you awake.

Good Luck !

easy come, easy go

I hunted deer with my brother's Sako when I was a teenager and that was the only rifle available.
I never did get a deer though. With the 375.

My brother did, and made the mistake of using expanding ammunition!

I have always thought that with controlled expansion ammo, that the 375 H&H is a good round for deer; excepting that it has excess power.

By the way, it is an excellent long range shooting firearm/ ammo combination that is overlooked by so many of the twenty first century shooters.
A great bear, moose, elk, caribou gun for North America. Not just Africa.
If I can remember correctly, there is a great variety of ammo available for it also.

The Sako was heavy. Sorry, but I don't remember the specific weight, but the recoil was not what I would call severe.

My brother, who had no sense for value, sold that rifle, probably fired no more than a dozen times -for $25 dollars. I was disgusted when I found out about it.

I have a Winchester Model 70 in .375H&H... it's a nice cartridge. Pretty much the same ballistics as .30-06, but with bullets almost twice as heavy. :)
