So I just got a 22 hornet given to me. It's a Harrington richardson 157 with a mannlicher stock. It's case hardened and has beautiful colors. All in all its in good shape. I'm not a huge fan of the mannlicher stock but it's in good shape so why mess with what works! The only issue I have is the trigger pull. It is horrendous, like I have shot 1 high point in my life and it had a better trigger... Anybody have any tips or point me in the right direction of some help reducing the pull??

I have a handi SB2-S24 in 22 Hornet, the trigger has a hard pull but it breaks clean. When not in use I leave the hammer cocked.
I did take it apart and smooth it up a bit with 3,4,5000 grit paper. It helped but the pull is still hard.

I should add, these parts case hardened so only polish lightly.

I'd move this over to the gun smithing forum. Probably get more bites there. Nice little rifle btw.

I had one of those and traded it away because the ejector sent the valuable brass over my shoulder and far far away into the weeds. It was a tack driver and the trigger was OK but as stated "stiff". I ended up with one soon after from Savage and it is a much easier to shoot rifle due to the refined trigger. Also the brass says by my feet.:) I always liked the case hardened receivers on those however. I have a few others in different calibers, some with spare barrels that were improved with some light polishing/lubing on the internals. That might help yours as well.

Many triggers are stiff because the return spring is so heavy...so please check to see if it IS the spring or the actual engagement surfaces of the sear. If it's the sear....tread gently as mentioned being surface hardened so don't take off any material or change angles.

But I'd bet the return spring is way too stiff and have seen them too long...enough so that they were going into coil-bind as the hammer was released. You might be able to nip off a coil or three and reduce the preload or substitute a suitably lighter spring and greatly improve the pull. Ye Old Ballpoint Pen spring often works fine...especially in a single shot where safety isn't such an issue with a light trigger.

Very true and I would add that that is surface hardened. Don't have to take off much to give you that 3# pull you desire but as time goes on that pull will eventually get down dangerously low. Be careful.....

If you can't figure out the trigger pull and want to get rid of that gun im your buyer! That thing is sweet!!

I ended up taking a stone to clean up the bearing surfaces, I got it down around 2.5 pounds which is more than enough for what I am doing. it really is a pretty sweet little gun minus the trigger pull which I addressed. I wasn't a huge fan of the stock, but it is growing on me. now the next problem I am having is finding brass for it! never thought it would be cheaper to buy loaded ammunition rather than buying brass. I cant wait to shoot it to see how it shoots. I don't want to shoot the ammo that came with it, the boxes are in pretty good shape and all full.

If I do not anneal my brass every time I only get one reload and the necks split. PPU brass works as well for me as any other brand. I am liking a full case of Lil Gun ~13.2 grains and compressed with 35-40 grain hornet specific .224 bullets.

I got rained out of work the other day so I went down to mexico Missouri to Graf and sons and picked up 300 pieces of brass and some 40 grain varminators, they also had 500 packs of 40 grain Z max so I went ahead and picked up some of those for my .22 CHeetah. I have some H110 to try and also some 4227 I can give a whirl. I almost picked up a pound of LIL gun but I passed on it because the other store I stopped at wanted almost 31 dollars for a pound of it. Thanks for all the replys that's what makes this site great!

I have that exact same rifle bought it in the mid 70's, I put a widefield scope on it, back then it is the most accurate rifle I owned.
After seeing your pic and read about you shooting it makes me want to get it out again, I think1982 was the last time I Shot it.
Thanks for the post and the reminder.

I just got done building a .22 CHeetah, and figured it was time to get a smaller rifle for the kids. This rifle fits the bill perfectly! I'm hoping it shoots like everyone says it will. I'm glad it brought back memories and hopefully pushes you to get yours out and start plinking!
