I knew I was in trouble the moment I walked in there. Has anyone else felt that way walking into a gunshop?

I went to a local gunshop (Jensens on Pima for Tucsonians) to get some ammo for this weekends shoot in Buckey AZ and it happened.

Now mind you, I was not in the market for another .45 since I love my Kimber so much. I wanted the 1066 I found up in Pheonix and planned on getting it at the end of the month.

But.........they had the new Taurus 24/7 on sale for $375. Normal price was $419 but was on sale till 2 Feb. Its a 4" DAO pistol with 3 dot white sights, stainless slide, 12 round mag and a pretty darn good trigger pull.

What suprised me the most was in fact the trigger pull. Smooth pull with no hang ups and broke clean at what I estimate around 6lbs. It has the rail for a light as well. Magazine capacity is 12 + 1 and the grip felt as slim as my Kimber. It fit my hand rather well.

Here's the downside. It comes with only 1 magazine. Also, it doesnt have the ribber grip panels like the .40 and 9MM does but I can live with that.

I dropped $40 for the layaway (to get the sale price) but wont be able to get it (funds) until the mid of Feb. So I wont have it up in Phoenix for the shoot this weekend.

Why did I get it? I dunno, just felt like trying out the new Taurus pistol so I can see if its better than the Mil Pro I have had on my short list. It feels better than the Mil Pro (45) and the grip is about 1/4" longer. The grip also feels a bit slimmer on the 24/7.

I plan on wringing this thing out with plenty of different ammo plus reloads and will post a detailed report as soon as possible.

Now......to keep the wife from finding out what I did.

My wife would be absolutely furious if I brought a new .45 home and didn't tell her.

She thinks she always gets to be the first one to shoot any and all new .45s that come into our house.

Lennyjoe:
Can you compare the trigger pull to the 9mm or .40? Is it smoother? I liked the design the first time I saw it, but I felt the triggers on those were horrendous.

..Joe

The trigger pull was smooth as butter with no stacking at the end. Nice break at what I figure is around 6 lbs. I dont know what its set at the factory and dont have it at the house yet to put a guage on it though. I do plan on tearing it apart when I get it home and buffing and smoothing out the internals.

I didnt even mess with the .40 or 9MM trigger cause I wasnt interested in those calibers. Sorry.

Only thing I can compare it to is the Mil Pro that I had the salesperson (lady) pull out to compare. The 24/7 trigger was alot smoother than the Mil Pro. Grip was only 1/4" longer than the Mil Pro and the width of the grip felt the same. That suprised me since the 24/7 holds 2 more rounds. I figured it would be a bit wider.

Now to find a few extra magazines and a decent Kydex holster. Think I'll give Comp-Tac a call tomorrow.

Lennyjoe, please let us know how it shoots. I handled a 24/7 at a gunshow recently and was impressed with how it felt ... it's also got the reassurance of a logical safety system. My wife has a PT-145 that I am actually starting to like a bit (easy to shoot and surprisingly accurate) and my 12-year-old PT-92 has been a stalwart member of my humble handgun collection -- so I guess I've become somewhat of a Taurus fan. Always on the lookout for another reliable autoloader ...

Too bad it doesn't have the Ribber grips, guess it would be too wide then. Cool price for it though, I'll be waiting for the range report, or I can do one for you. :D

or I can do one for you.

Me first ;)

For those of you who havent seen the 24/7 here it is.

I have to admit, when I tried the trigger at West of the Pecos, I thought it was extremely smooth too. Though, maybe after trying the trigger on my friend's Sigma, anything would be good! But really, it did feel good.

I'm curious what the .45acp version exactly looks like cause the picture that was posted has the Ribber grip. I saw that same pic on the Taurus website which I hate cause they don't always show the correct pic with the listing they post. And if it doesn't have the Ribber then I'll just slap a Hogue on.

Actually, it isn't a ribber grip, it's just a polymer grip, this...

is the ribber grip on the 9mm and also the 40 version, you can see the little rubber ribs sticking out on the frontstrap.

WhoKnowsWho-I stand corrected, thanks for posting the other pic. They share the a similar design and I wasn't paying attention.

I believe the 24/7 and Mil-Pro 145 are identical other than grip and barrel length. I have the 145 and the trigger just seems to keep getting smoother and smoother. Its only had about 200-300 rounds thru it. I reload so I don't keep count. If only I could get one with an adjustable sight I'd love to have a 24/7.

The Mil Pro was on my short list as well. But when I handled the 24/7 I knew the Mil Pro was a gonner.

Mags are $34 each. Think Im gonna order 2 of them. Now to find a kydex IWB holster for this guy.

Just to let you guys know, the current issue of SWAT has a review of the 24/7 in .40. I hope the 24/7s come to CA soon. I want to try one out.

Congrat's Lennyjoe My Friend-

On the purchase of your new Taurus 24/7. I hope you enjoy it?
As you probably know, I've never owned ANY Taurus firearms;
but I do sell a lot of 'em. Only a couple of PT-22's have come
back for warranty repair work since I've been employed at the
gun shop.

Best Wishes,

I own a PT-111 Pro. I have also handled, but not field stripped, a 24/7. I also would be curious to know if the 24/7 is essentially a larger version of the Millennium Pro pistol. From the exterior, they look very similar, but I have not looked at the lockwork of the 24/7.

Looks like Highnoon Holsters, Desanti's and Fobus are the only holster makers so far for the 24/7.

I will be more than happy to post a detailed report on this pistol.

Should also be getting a Chronograph pretty soon so I will also put down performance data with factory and reloads.

Just found out I get a free magazine thru Taurus anyway. That saves me $34 bucks. :)

I can hardly wait to get this darn pistol out.

Hopefully its worth the wait.

Awl hell, I just read the fine print at the bottom. Offer expires 11/01/04 :cuss:

Maybe I'll call them and see if they could hook me up. Yea right.

My wife would be absolutely furious if I brought a new .45 home and didn't tell her.

My main concerns would be the flak I would get for initially buying the gun. (she thinks I have to many as it is!!)
Then, I would be worried she would take a liking to it and force me to buy another one like she did with my Glock 26!!!

To bad you won't be bringing it to the shoot, Lenny!!
I would have enjoyed the opportunity to fondle it!! :D

Uh oh. Just got the thing out of layaway.

I will have it with me up at the shoot in Buckeye AZ this Sunday so not only will you get a range report from me, but other folks inputs.

Gonna strip her down tonight and see how bad it is to teardown.

I found magazines at Natchezss for $27. Thats about 7 bucks cheaper than Taurus.
