So, shortly after I put the Jumbo grips on my snake slayer, I was playing with the gun with snap caps. The trigger was almost impossible to pull and when I looked down into the action, I saw that back of the top firing pin snapped off.

After I stopped crying, I called Bond Arms to see about service.

Spoke with Wally, who gave me their UPS Account # and return instructions. I sent it back that day.

Exactly 48 hours later, Travis (their gunsmith) called me back. He said that they received the firearm and the fix was a piece of cake. He explained that the firing pin as probably sheared off due to my excessive dry firing the pistol with snap caps, and suggested using spent brass instead.

He replaced the firing pin and inspected all other internals. All looked well. He also said that he went ahead and replaced the main spring with a new competition spring that they are releasing soon. It should reduce the trigger pull and smooth out the action (which is somewhat testy on these pistols). He also went ahead and buffed out the light surface scratches that appeared after 4 months of ownership.

I received the pistol back today, and it is just as beautiful as ever!! On top of that the trigger pull has been reduced to ~5-6 lbs. VERY NICE. They also threw a cable lock in my case, just because they are awesome. :)

Bond arms should be an absolute customer service model for the rest of the industry. They are fast and really went the extra mile!!

If you buy one their pistols, rest assured that customer service is absolutely FIRST RATE. I have never dealt with a firearms company that treats their customers like this!!!

Hmmmmm....yeah.
NO.

Not sure I can agree on this.

If the firearm breaks from a modest amount of dry firing, it sure isn't "the best company EVER".

Good CS? Yes.
But that level of emgineering is not confidence-inspiring, and surely not something I want to trust my life to.

Jimenez Arms also has great customer service but that doesn't make me want to roll the dice on their quality control.

Sounds like they stand behind their products and you didn't say what the exact turn around time was, but it sounded from your story like it wasn't more than a week or so, which is exceptional compared to the average wait to have a gun fixed. I too am a little confused on the snap cap causing a problem...are you using the plastic ones or the red metal ones? Is the 'primer' area shot out on your snap caps or something?

...replaced the main spring with a new competition spring that they are releasing soon.
Pretty cool that they're finally getting some match grade parts out for these guns. I think they've really been held at a disadvantage in the competitive shooting world by the lack of a match-grade trigger pull.

Totally understood... I didn't intend this thread to be about the break itself, rather how they treated me when it broke, which was totally refreshing this day and age. I feel that the gun is still top notch.

This is because, in all fairness to Bond, I didn't always have a snap cap in and didn't realize the harm on dry firing on an empty chamber.

When the snap cap was in, they are the red metal ones with a rubber primer, but one had fallen out, causing the same effect as dropping on an empty chamber.

I don't really fault them for the breakage, as I feel somewhat responsible.

But to edit... the title should have said that "Bond arms has the best CS ever". I had my gun back in 6 days from the day I sent it to them.

I certainly would not recommend using fired cases as snap caps!!

The first time, the dent will get deeper.
By the second or third time, the firing pin will have nothing to stop it at all, because the old primer is beat out as far as the firing pin can reach..

Might as well dry-fire on empty chambers.

I was on the Bond Arms website yesterday checking out their derringers and I'm pretty sure that they recommend using snap caps in their FAQ section.

Bond Arms does have great CS, and I have a friend who had a very similar failure from dry firing....His gun was repaired within a couple of weeks. He used caps now. My father has the snake slayer...great gun, fun to shoot.
