Yep! Guns filled with straight Kentucky bourbon! I saw only the boxes, pictured at an online auction. Never having seen gun decanters, I bid on them. Next thing you know I owned them!

I've checked the Web and eBay for info on this Hoffman Distilling Co. out of Lawrenceburg, KY. I can only assume they shut down sometime around the year 2000, after producing SIX different small ceramic pistols filled with bourbon. On the back of the ceramicdisplay stand is a short story about the gun it holds. Old price tag on one of the boxes shows $14.85.

These are empty so I can legally put 'em up for auction, but I don't know anything about them. They'd be great for a collector of Lugers, and the Colt 1911. I bought 'em out of curiosity. I've had my fun, but again, I don't know anything about them. Can any of you THR readers enlighten me.

Thanks in advance for any help. Best regards, ---45Broomhandle

Well, I guess this proves that guns and booze do mix. :D

Don't know anything about them 'cept that I'd be interested in owning them. Whaddaya want for 'em? PM me if you want to sell them.

I have a tequila bottle shaped like a 1911. Its called a Six Shooter, because it comes filled with six shots of tequila.

Answering All

The other four pistol decanters, shown on the back of the boxes, were: Tower Flintlock; Kentucky Flintlock; Dodge City Frontier (a Colt SAA); and 1851 Civil War Colt. These two are still in original boxes (exc. cond.) with the shaped styro packing, and one has a pamphlet for FREE CM Russell postcards and Hoffman catalog.

As I said, I bought 'em just out of curiosity, and that is now satisfied. Glad to hear there is a known value on these things. I don't collect bottles, etc., so had no idea. So, NO, they won't be displayed in my house. I've got too much "junk" around as it is. Since my bypass in March I'm trying to get rid of everything, including a large portion of my collection.

Gonna' stick with my Fialas, Hartfords, and HS Mdl. Bs - and some oddball .22rf rifles. Still have to work on displaying all the iron I've got instead of hiding it away in file cabinets. Nobody can enjoy them there.

Best regards, and a BIG THANKS to you guys, ---45Broomhandle

Interesting that if you were to drink from the "bottle" you have to put the barrel in your mouth...similar to shooting drunk!

I know more about whiskey than I know about guns, and I know ALOT about whiskey.

I know a lot about drinking whiskey :D But from the sound of how much these things retailed, I don't think it would have been worth drinking.

Decanters Empty

Previous owner emptied them. I don't know how much these held, but the tax stamp says 1/2 pint. They're WAY too small to hold that much. These little guys are about half the size of the original guns. ---45Broomhandle

cute!.... back in the 70s or 80s i got an avon bottle with some smell perty in it... it was a glass pepperbox pistol i think..................

Someone Already Asked

Thanks for your interest Bogie. Yes, I intend to sell 'em off, however, an earlier poster has asked about buying them. If he's no longer interested I'll send you a PM. Otherwise - - - he's got first shot - no pun intended. ---45Broomhandle
