I recently obtained a couple of very nice small gun-shaped, ceramic decanters: a P-08 Luger and a Colt 1911A1. They're still in their boxes with shaped styro, an offer for free CM Russel postcards and a Hoffman catalog. (No expiry date to give me a clue.)

I've checked the Web and it appears they may have gone out of business around 2000. They were called Hoffman Distilling Co. located in Lawrenceburg, KY. It seems they produced six different pistol models similar to these, filled with bourbon and one price stamp says $14.85.

I checked eBay and found only one Hoffman decanter, but it wasn't a gun, just a little elfin figurine.

Can anyone give me some info about these very neat little models. They're very detailed, completely ceramic including the display base. On the back of each base is a short story about the gun it holds.

I thought I'd seen about everything, but these are a new one on me. HELP!

Thanks in advance for any help. Best regards, ---45Broomhandle

I was browsing at Barnes & Noble today and remembered this post. In the 5th edition of Antique Trader were listed Hoffman's decanters. Their pistol series has basically doubled in price; if in fact, you can get that price. They list the Luger at $20-30 and the 1911 at $25-35. Price would depend on condition and completeness of the package. Circa 1975. Sorry, I don't remember the other four models.
