A Jefferson County juvenile court officer was saved from serious injury by a bulletproof vest when he was shot outside a church, said Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley.
Edward G. Satterly, 40, was working in the area when he was approached around 10 p.m. EST by a youth in the parking lot of Peniel Missionary Baptist Church in southern Louisville, said Smiley.
"The man then asked the court officer if he had any junior police badges," Smiley said. "The officer said, no, he did not, and the man then said, 'Fine, I will take yours,' pulled the weapon and then shot at the officer."
Satterly was taken to University of Louisville Hospital and later released. Smiley said he suffered only bruises.
The assailant fled on foot and was still being sought Thursday afternoon.
The suspect was a black man between the ages of 18 and 22, between 5-8 and 5-10, with white and blue beads in his braided hair, Smiley said.
