Anyone experienced with diopter sights in general or on the K31 explicitly?
I have a "mixmaster" K31 which I use for general use with open sights and scout sights. I am thinking of getting an all matching walnut K31 and was wondering how the St Marie diopters work on it. The look very elegant on the gun (from pictures) and I was thinking I could use diopters for a 100 yard target rig. Is this a good choice? Any cons?

It appears that the St Marie diopters sit on the barrel centerline and don't have the windage problem of the side mounted scope. Is this correct?

Your experience and advice is most appreciated.

Wow... I just took a look at the St. Marie diopter sights... those look great, I haven't heard of those... I may just have to get a set...

I have a type-K on my K-31. It is very similar. It works great.

The St. Marie diopter site is very similar to the K. The good folks at St. Marie are very friendly. I orderd GP11 cardboard clip from them before.

If you have any other question, you should definitely ask at the Swissrifle forums. I think Pierre, the guy who makes this, hangs out there.

Tell me more about your K sights, pbhome. Do you have interchangeable front and rear apertures? What sizes do you use? What ranges do you shoot at- 100, 200, 300 yds? Any pics? All info apreciated.

BTW, I am acquainted with the swissrifle and stmarie sights, they are most useful.

Bill,

I have the type-K with Grunig iris for the front, and Gehmann iris for the rear sight (566, I think). The front sight on mine does not align. I need to shim it a little bit to make the rear dioptor centered.

I usually shot it at 100 yds. Occationally at 200 yds (that the longest range I had access to.) I haven't shot it for awhile (3-4 years).

I will need to dig them up and take some pictures.

Here's the pictures of mine. Sorry for late reply, been busy lately. The rear insert is actually Centra, not Grunig.

If there is any picture you want to see more of, please let me know.

Great pics, Pat, thanks very much. Your'e right, it is very similar in concept to the St. Marie offering. Tell me, are the K sights generally available and if so where, how much, etc.?

Type P

Front end changeable aperatures and accepts gehmann adjustable aperature.

Type P II works on the clamp on scope mount for adjustable eye relief.

Full dress k31 showing the screw-in adjustable front aperature installed.

I got mine from Switzerland. I got it in 2002. It was rather expensive. I can imagine it is more now (back then 1 Euro = $0.90, now 1 Euro = $1.20)

The type P/P II that K31 refers to is probably your best bet. The P II is actually a bit better since you can double it as a scope mount.

Good Luck,

Thanks, Pat. Looks like St. Marie is the best bet although I will opt for the old style, not the P II. The scope mount is of no use to me since I just don't care for the concept of an offset scope. Just a matter of personal preference, I know some people really like them.

I expect to end up with three K31s:
-my "mixmaster" with the barrel and action matching but not the stock or magazine. This will eventually use a scout type scope and be primarily a hunter
-a walnut all matching K31 which I will fit with the diopters and will be primarily a target gun
-an all matching beechwood which will have a mojo peep sight and be sort of a utility gun.

I'm waiting for AIM to get some more matching number K31s in stock.

Thanks to you and K31 for all the help.
