PS- Has anybody tried to make a drop-in replacement for the rear sight blade that has an aperture instead? That's how the FN49 is set up, and I found it to be very nice.

MoisinFreak is correct that Mojo makes a rear aperture sight that replaces the rear sight blade assembly. http://www.mojosights.com/

However, I don't think you will like it as much as the rear aperture on the FN49. I do have a Mojo installed on my Norinco SKS. The Mojo is made well enough, but the Mojo is mounted far from the eye and looses what advantage an aperture near the eye offers. Since the K31's rear sight is in front of the action similar to the SKS, I figure the K31 will not gain enough advantage by installing the Mojo.

I'm not saying the Mojo isn't usable because it is usable. In use it is just slower, less precise for aiming, and doesn't help the eye focus like a rear mounted aperture. That's just my experience and it is the same with a forward mounted Williams aperture as well.

you can't be saying that an SAFN49 is the more beautiful between the K31's, the K's will get jealous.

They can always take solace in the fact that they're skinnier :D. The walnut and beech look good, and are in good shape (for K31's), but there just isn't much going on with the grain. The FN has wood almost as nice as my Franchi O/U 12ga! The K31's will get plenty of attention though when I get around to a (very gentle) refinish of the shellac.

Also, those Mojo's look interesting, especially since they cost around 1/5 of what the diopters go for. I did see something interesting on Ebay yesterday, it was a "precision" rear blade ramp sight with a knob that rolled forward to raise the blade, instead of sliding into detents. It's probably expensive being rare, but seems like an easier sighting solution than giant diopters, offset scope mounts, or tiny apertures.

S&K makes mounts for many mil-surp guns. I can't post a link other than the home page because of they way their website is set up. http://www.scopemounts.com/index.html?main.html

They make two kinds for the K31. One like I have and one with a short weaver type rail in the same location. Look for photos under "Ex-Military" and "pictures" in the navigation bar of the home page. Then scroll down to the K31 under Scout Mounts half way down.

The weaver type do not come with rings, but the type I have does come with rings.

Thanks man!

Redid mine with stain and tru oil over beech. Process was slow going, but quite lovely.

No problem!

Like I mentioned in the other thread, the pistol scope's eye relief is too long. I need to get off my rear and get a true scout type scope. :p
Bummer.

Being somewhat of a masochist, I'm wanting to try and stick with non amplified sights.

Has anyone used Mojo sights? Opinions?
