I posted awhile ago about how my K31 was shooting very low at a short distance. All of the answers that I got told me that I needed to take it out to a longer range and see what it did at thoses distances. Well I got the rifle out to the ranges a few times, at distances between 100 - 200 meters, and with Wolf Gold and GP11 ammo, and between 3 different shooters whose abilities I trusted. Every single time the rifle shot low. To be able to hit the target at 100 meters the sight slide would have to be set at 500 meters. Grouping was damn near perfect just insanly low. The smartass answer I got from my friends was just leave the sight at 500 and be happy with it, but that doesn't satisfy me. Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If it is shooting low then you need to file the front sight down.

By how much? I have no idea.

Take very little at a time and shoot to find the poi you like.

Good luck.

Try shooting your rifle without barrel bands or the handguard. See if that changes POI. Perhaps the bands/handguard is putting excess pressure on top of the barrel.

If there is no difference, file down the front sight blade in small increments. That should raise POI.

same as 82oo, ya might also have a warped stock, does the barrel come up if ya remove the handgaurd etc? if it does your stock is possibly warped or the rear tang screw is loose either will cause a rifle which was at one point in its life shooting to POA otherwise it would have been corrected by the arsenal so before just takin a file to the front sight (as it was sighted in with GP11 to shoot POA with the sight the height it is now) ya might wanna look for what has changed since it was setup by the arsenal, warped forends are fairly common and that can easily pull your POI low or a bedding issue, I'd start with a very thorough check of all atachment points then start taking it apart and check for changes, a laser bore sighter is a great investment for any shooter even the $40 walmart ones will help diagnose your problem install it then aim at the furthest wall in your house at a screw or other fine fixed object then as ya trouble shoot the rifle aim at it again and see if the laser dot has changed position on the wall......... easiest way to handle your issue without alot of wasted ammo... if ya get it down to the bare action try the laser again....... if its still low then your only option left will be filing the sight but save that as the last option as its much harder to put metal back than it is to take it off.....

Good luck

A feature that was on the 1911 rifle that wasn't on the K31 is a metal ring around the barrel to keep the stock from putting pressure on the barrel.

You can try loosening the barrel bands a few turns and reshooting, or possibly try shooting without the handguard to see if that could be the problem.

A long time ago, when K31's cost quite a bit more than they do now, I took my K31's and found some small, solid washers that would allow me to tighten the barrel bands down, yet space the wood off of the barrel.

Another method is to mark the barrel, tighten down the band and see if there are any contact points. If there are, a dowel and some sandpaper can take care of them.
