Zouave, an associate of mine 'fire forms' his .308 casing to match the 7.5 Swiss chamber and reloads as usual.

I prefer using grease over oil for all of my firearm actions. It's less messy IMHO.

Just resize .284 winchester brass with a 7.5 Swiss sizign die- the .284 is nearly the same case as the 7.5 swiss except with a slightly different shoulder and a rebated rim.

GP-11 cases can be reloaded with some prep work. I read an article about it awhile back but I haven't tried it myself yet (the link to the article is down:( )

I basicly involves crimping the primer pocket tighter using a ball bearing, then reswaging the pocket using a military primer pocket swage tool, then drilling a new flash hole for a boxer primer. It looks really easy, but not easy enough for me since I have 500 or so reloadable pieces of converted .284 brass.

I just use Break Free oil on my K31 and it seems to work just fine. And eventually, when you do get into reloading, you'll be able to cut the cost of the ammo considerably. The K31 is really one rifle that lives up to it's reputation.

40 cents per round is not bad at all for essentially Match ammo. I would like to know where 8mm is being sold for 8 cents per round! My two K31s are extremely accurate and both only shoot about 3 inches high at 100 meters. Just about right for a 6 oclock hold.

Nice rifle. I've got a K-31 and it's a great shooter, but I'm having trouble finding the GP-11 cartridge for anything less than $0.40 a shot. Is this normal? It seems expensive compared to the $.08 per shot I'm spending to shoot my 98k
I haven't even been able to find gp11 that cheap for the last 6 months, its closer to $.50 a round now, roughly the same as .308. Its good ammo but for the same money you can buy prvi stuff thats reloadable.

The Chittenango Benchrest club outside of Syracuse had a K-31 match, and apparently someone did a three-inch group at six hundred yards over iron sights.

These rifles can shoot.

GP-11 is reloadable. It's just a real PITA the first time you do it, so I've been told. The Prvi Partisan would be much, much, much easier, since it's already boxer primed.

I really like the Swiss K-31

Great choice for a rifle. I have a couple of them and both are great rifles and dead on at 100 yards with the factory sights.

I have always used a good, light, clear grease in preference of oil for all my rifle actions. You only need a very small amount and spread it very thin. It seems to last longer than oil and definitely reduces wear on parts better than oil.

It's a must use in my M1 Garands and M1 Carbines. Once they get hot (after about 50 rounds), oil dries up and the gun starts to jamb. When grease is used and it heats up, it just becomes thin like oil but it does not dry up like oil. With a well greased M1, I can go through about 500 rounds before the action starts to jamb and needs cleaning. If I use oil, I never get past 50 to 75 rounds tops before it dries up and the action starts to jamb on me.

I only take 2 or 3 guns when I go to the range and I field strip, clean and lube them religiously everytime I get home from the range. It's a labor of love.

For your next good rifle, if funds are limited, I highly recommend the Russian Mosin M-38 or M-44. These are great bolt action carbines that are dead on accurate at 100 yards. The ammo is plentiful and cheap. These rifles can generally be had for around $90.00 in very good condition. They are a little more crudely made than the Swiss rifle but don't let the looks fool you. They are still damn good guns. I bought 4 of the spam cans of ammo about 2 years ago and if I remember correctly it came out to less than 10 cents a round.

I still see the Russian carbines and the ammo at shows all the time. the prices have not changed much.

Good luck with your new gun. Hope you enjoy it.
