a friend told me last night that he would take $270 for a k98 its in great shape and it comes with 300 rounds of 8mm what do you guys think good price or not

That's like asking if $3000 is a good price for a car.

First, are you sure it's German?
Is it all matching?
Is the stock intact, or was it a duffel cut?
Is it import marked?
Does it have electopencil marks?

If it's German and has matching parts, it should be worth at least that. It could be worth even more.

Russian Capture (RC) K 98's are currently going for around 250.00 so your in the ball park. An all matching k98 will go for 500+. If the bore is good on the one he is selling, stock is in good shape, everything works., Its worth getting.
The prices keep going up on these, keep that in mind.

its got all the germen markings and stock is great shape he has paperwork on it where it was picked up from its . so what do you guys think

What kind of paperwork? A bill of sale from where he bought it? Capture papers? Is it a Russian capture or a bringback?

Capture papers from russia all numbers match thats about all i know about it . It's shoots very good

We still need more information for you to make a fully informed choice. "Capture papers from Russia" means what, exactly? This is likely meaningless, but if for some reason this rifle is accompanied by a "capture paper" from the former USSR it would be unbelievably rare and valuable. You indicate that the numbers match, but "Russian Capture" k98k's were generally force-matched with a eletropencil and are not considered "matching" anymore. In sum, if it's a garden variety Russian Capture in typical re-arsenaled condition, it's likely worth $250-300 and is priced well by your friend.

See if you can get more info from your friend - what is the letter or number code on top of the receiver? is it byf, bcd, 660, etc. Any receiver, barrel and stock markings would be helpful. Take a look at these "Russian Capture Papers" too and describe them as best you can. We'll tell you more about the piece if we have more info.

Hope this helps,
vanfunk
