Ranged this beautiful 7 pointer about 50-55 yards and took the broadside shot. He didn't run for more than 20 yards before collapsing and dying, the 170 grain softpoint speer ammo completely liquified his vital organs but left a very lil exit wound. Estimate about 90 pounds of good meat i can get off him

very good weekeand i spent with a good buddy (see thread last year on mosin hunting), he'll be leaving for the navy in a month though so this will be our last hunt together

That's pretty cool. The first rifle I ever deer hunted with was a .303 British Enfield. I never took a deer with the gun, but I did just pull it out of hiding and dusted it off for a range trip after work this week. Maybe next year.

Just because he's going into the Navy doesn't mean it's your last hunt together, it just means it may have to wait a few years. Congratulations on the buck. That's a good hunt.

thank you, that's what i mean, it would be our last hunt for quite awhile, it's funny in a way because we're both poolee (i enlisted in the USMC) and we love to rip on each other's future service.

Now, how am i gonna finish off 90 pounds of meat......

Onto the rifle, it is my favoirte shooter! The iron elite scope mount works terrifically and to bring out its accuracy potential i threw a Weaver K10 scope on it. Back a few monthes ago i made a bet with a friend that i can bust 2 orange soda cans at 100 yards with 1 shot, this is what happened

What does a decent K98k go for these days?

oh man, from a great conditioned YC K98k to a all matching bring back K98k, excluding the rare ones with SS deathhead or sniper or kreigsmodel or .......uhh, somewhere between $200-$2000, yeah

your best bet of getting a shooter would be a Russian Captured K98k though, low collector's value but most are great shooters

I've been looking and most of the K98 I have seen say they have been converted to 308, is that common? And what are they originally?

definately not true, most K98k converted to .308 are the Isreali mausers which most are in poor condition. PM me if you want to know more or buy a K98k in the hear future

Nice shooting, nice rig. I took my M48 out opening morning (11/14), but opted for my Mark X in 7x57 when I had scope issues on the M48.

Real nice! As your proves, unless there's something wrong, many suprplus rifles will shoot surprisingly well.

I have a sporterized bring-back I inherited from a vet and old family friend. He called it his "meat gun" and said it was a "pie-plate" shooter. Well, I bedded the action, floated the barrel and played around with it some, worked up some reloads and used it to bag a nice doe last year.

Best surprise was I used some of the reloads in an old K98 Yugo rebuild for the heck of it - and was pleasantly surprised at what a good shooter it is too!

It's a lot of fun working with these old rifles and when you can connect on a nice 7-pointer like you did there - it's all the more fun!
