KAHR Auto Ordnance M1 carbine ammo test update

so now a update on ammo tests. After slowly gathering different ammo during this ammo shortage and high price in these days and age, did a trip not long ago and tested several brands. Best groups as far as size were S&B FMJ and Armscor FMJ ammo. Worst was Fiocchi ammo.

As far as hitting center mass as sighted in at 100 yds, I know now that S&B soft point, PPU soft point and FMJ, and magtech are the best considerations

Had a couple stove pipes, but function was about 95% reliable with all ammo. Armscor seemed to be the hottest loaded ammo.

I know which is why it took me so long to gather all the different ammo, was waiting and waiting for prices to drop some and finally got tired of waiting as I wanted to know what I should use in the rifle preferably and some ammo was found at shows some online and some at gun stores . Some of that ammo was $1.00 a round . Go to ammoseek and all ammo is about gone again now. SR1 target black bulls is 6 inches in diameter. Groups sizes shown are typical of just about every M1 carbine I have shot doing 10 shots. The way I see it at 100 yds if hits are staying in the black good enough for me.

I've never shot for groups, but my 1st generation Universal shoots the Aguila stuff into an 8 inch circle at 100 yards when shooting offhand with a hasty sling. I'm surprised you didn't get better accuracy with it.

Woof. Makes me glad I reload mine. I couldn't enjoy shooting at a dollar a round.....

M1 carbines make poor target rifles, but this is not an issue when the gun only has an effective range of 100 yards or so. Those groups look normal to me.

Thanks for testing and posting this. With ammo prices the way they are and especially for those who enjoy shooting their carbines more than occasionally, reloading should be a pretty serious consideration as it drops the cost per round to 35¢ or so.

Of the dozen or so carbines I currently own, the two commercial models, an Iver Johnson and a 1st Generation Universal, will group handloads under 3" at 100 yds. and under 6" at 200 yds. on a routine basis with some of original USGI examples grouping equally as well. The remaining USGI productions consistently shoot between 3" and 4" at 100 yds. and about twice that at 200. Certainly not target rifle accuracy, but plenty good enough to make hits at 200 yds. a reality.
