I want to replace my skyy cpx1 with a +P capable compact 9mm. Currently, because of what I have read in various forums and reviews, I am leaning towards sthe Kahr because of cost and size. However, all of the reviews of the Taurus 709 and the Kahr CW9 I have read are one to two years old. Does anyone have experience with newer productions of these pistols? Thanks so much from this new member of the forum.

Just over 200 rounds through mine. With a Hogue Handall Jr. it shoots softer than my XD9 service...or feels softer anyway. It is surprisingly accurate and easy to shoot for such a small pistol. I had 1 failure to feed in the first 50 rounds ... good to go after that...so far.

I haven't fired the Kahr but I've held it and pointed it, they don't feel quite as good in my hand as the Taurus. My 709 was bought just before Christmas, it's been perfect through one range trip and over 100 rounds of WWB and a couple of magazines of personal protection ammo. The Kahr probably has higher quality components (it should, for 2X the price) and I think it's a bit smaller but the Taurus fills my needs just fine so far. I'm sure the Kahr will serve you just as well if it fits you better than the other options.

I've had my CW9 three months now. Close to 700 mixed rounds with one shooter induced failure to lock back on an empty mag. It has digested everything I've put through it. Very accurate for me out to about 15 yards. It has become my EDC. Next up for me is the PM9.

Welcome to THR!

Just picked up a CW9 today, after asking about the same question you did last week. Not too many bad things to say about them, at least everybody that posted in my thread, liked theirs. I'll report back after my initial range workout:)

I've had my CW9 for just over a year and it has replaced my S&W 642 as my EDC...and I've been carrying that 642 for 10+ years.

I tested it extensively, well pass the recommended break-in period, because I had heard that the polymer framed Kahrs had more issues than the steel framed ones. Mine has proven very reliable and accurate. The trigger is much smoother than I expected, but the reset was a bit long...it is very much like the 642. The thinness really is a nice feature

Good choice. I have a CW9 with CT grips. It has been very reliable and accurate. I liked it so much that I bought a CW45. :fire:

The CW9 is a nice gun with some excellent "carry" qualities. It is simple, thin, full gripped, +P capable, accurate and fairly inexpensive. Personally I prefer the P9 for several reasons, but they are basically the same gun. The CW9 is a good choice for a CCW.

I just gave up a troublesome Taurus PT709 and decided I was getting a Kahr to replace it. My intent was to get a CW9 but by chance just before I plunked down the money for the CW9 I stumbled across this awesome all black K9, got it out for a maiden run yesterday...it is one of the best 9mm I've ever shot...

Kahr all the way :)

Have a CW9, my Florida pistol. (Illinois has no CCW, only state in the Union to deny their citizens the right to self protection with firearms.). Flat, compact, accurate, reliable. It was $449 a couple years ago when everything, especially ammo was in short supply.

We've sold a few 709 Slims and had to send several of them back to the factory for repairs, everything from feeding, extracting/ejecting, or horribly regulated sights. No Kahr returns. That said, I'm working with a sp101 to possibly replace the Kahr for carry. Always been a wheelgunner.

IMO Taurus cant touch Kahrs quality even when the guns are close in price.
Ive owned several Tauri and still have a PT1911, But the build quality of my MK9 Kahr is second to none.
It used to be Taurus held a really good low price point where it was hard to pass up buying their products, But recently the prices on their guns has really jumped. Mainly im talking about the small .380 and 9mm pocket sized guns Taurus make.

I have the MK9 as i mentioned and its an all steel 9mm about the size of many .380's and its build quality is amazingly good, Shooting such a small gun with a hot 9mm +P is pretty much like butter its so smooth. Ive heard the same about the polymer PM9 which is my guns twin brother.

Lastly is how the guns holds its value, Trading a Taurus in at a gun shop is like paying them to take it many times. Your much better off selling in person if you want to get a reasonable price back out of the gun.
With a Kahr its a highly desirable gun and most shops will give you a decent trade in value but still not as high as a private sale. But over all trading in a Kahr nets more cash than a Taurus when you don't have time to sell it face to face or don't like dealing with other people in gun sales.

Another CW9 fan here. Smooth shooting, "accurate" (at least for me and others who have shot it), and reliable.

CW 9

hello all
i have put 600 rounds through my cw nine without one failure of any kind.
i have used at least 8 different types of ammo and three diff hollow points.
its a keeper for me.
good luck

I have a K9 and find it is just about the ideal size for a carry gun. The CW is even thinner and lighter. Kahrs have a lot going for them as a carry gun, which isn't surprising since they were designed with that task in mind.

Ive owned 2 CW9's. The first one had ~1000 trouble free rounds through it but was stolen out of my truck one morning when i left it running to warm up. The 2nd, I still have and has seen 500 trouble free rounds. I chose the CW9 again because no other gun appealed to me or had comparable dimensions for the same price range. Picked the first one up almost 3 years ago for $385 and the second a year an a half ago for $400.

In addition to the ones below the P series are available in black, while the CW line is stainless only. CWs have less selection of sights. Personally, I prefer the P9 for these two reasons, but the CW is essentially the same gun.
