Kahr k-9

I am considering getting a Kahr K-9, I get the feeling that the Kahr is a good weapon as far as accuracy, reliability and concealed carry potential are concerned, but the Kahr seems to be a purely double action weapon without any safety mechanisms like Glock's safe action trigger system or Sig Sauer's 12.8 pound double action trigger pull, could some of the Kahr owners out there tell me how they feel about their guns and if they have had any problems with safety? thanks

I used to own a K9 Elite 98, and currently own a P9 Covert and MK40.

The Kahr trigger is a smooth, relatively long, pull. The length of pull is similar to a revolver DA pull.

I consider it safer to carry than guns with shorter DA pulls, and certainly as safe as any revolver.

I pocket carry my P9 Covert with a round in the chamber in an Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster, and feel completely safe.

PS I only traded my K9 in because: 1) I preferred the P9 Covert for carry, and 2) I acquired a HK P7, similar in size, weight and capacity to the K9, and liked it better than the K9. So, I traded the K9 in on something I did not have - a hi-cap 9. Wound up getting an XD.

I have no problems with it. I treat it like a revolver, which also has a DA trigger and no safety.

I've got two K9 Kahrs, one with the standard trigger and one that I installed an Elite trigger in. No problems whatsoever with safety. To echo CougarRed's comments, treat it like a DA revolver. No one seems to mind that revolvers don't generally have safeties. The Kahr's trigger is just like a good revolver.

Like with any firearm, keep your finger off the trigger until you've made the decision to fire. Or, as one wag here put it: keep your booger hook off the bang switch.

I have a PM9 and am very satisfied with the complete system. As long as you keep your finger off the trigger, there should be no problems.
Someone else said, "The safety is between your ears."
One thing, you will have to devote enough time to practice dry firing and actual range time to get the hang of dao shooting. Once you have accomplished this, you will be very pleased.

Thanks for all the advice, i'll probably add the Kahr to my collection, they are fairly reasonably priced at my local gun dealer.

Actually, Kahr and Glock have almost identical safeties. Using Glock’s terminology, I would call Kahrs “safe-action” pistols. A Kahr won’t fire without a trigger pull.

There is no safety because, like with a double action revolver, there is no need for a safety. The "safety" is the fact that to fire it requires quite a bit of trigger travel against resistance. This is extremely hard to do by accident. Your best safety is to keep your finger off the trigger unless you intend to fire it.

I have a stainless K40 that's been great. Very accurate and stone reliable. My trick with the Kahrs is not to try to "stage" the trigger up to a SA-like let-off. What I've found is that by learning to use a complete, smooth stroke of the trigger yields the best "combat accuracy". If you like you can practice the "staging" thing to get better target work done. Mine is capable of surprising accuracy slow-fired and supported but, IMO that's not quite what these gems were designed for.

I feel completely comfortable with mine. I routinely carry IWB in a Kydex holster.

I agree.

I love mine. I have shot my last concealed carry renewal with it and shot a prefect score. I also shot the last two handgun courses I completed and over a period of 3 days fired about 2000 rounds through my gun. No failures. I love it.
