Kahr K9 NYPD trade in $299

You'll have to let us know how the NYPD Kahr compares to the one you have now.

Will do. The one I've got is an K9 Elite 98, which has a slightly shorter and lighter trigger pull. Apart from that, I'm not hoping there won't be too much of a difference.

I have a K9 standard trigger bought new several years ago and an NYPD NS black SS police surplus about six months ago. The NYPD was in excellent shape, with no wear whatsoever. $399. The night sights were several years old but still glowed enough to qualify.

The CDNN deal appears terrific for a great gun. I don't feel that the difference between the triggers is signficant. You either like the Kahr DA trigger or you don't.

Mine came in yesterday but I wasn't able to go pick them up. I'm going to try to go get them today.

Well I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were stainless guns rather than the matte blackened stainless. Often surplus guns have a lot of holster wear. Upon a cursory inspection they looked pretty good. The stainless should clean up well if there is much wear.

One had night sights that were still decently bright. The other had sights that were not just dim but basically didn't glow at all. I still feel like it is a good deal but had I known the night sights had NO life left at all I would have preferred to pay $299 for a gun without them rather than an extra $30 to get them. Like I said, its still a good buy but a little annoying. I expected dim but not non glowing.

Upon initial dry firing the trigger seems to be about like my other K9 but I have't compared side by side yet.

They look like they could use a good cleaning. One more so than the other. Overall they appear to be in good shape.

Just picked up my NYPD K9 w/ night sights. My initial thought when I opened the box is that mine was barely shot and is in near mint condition 9/10. Night sights have acceptable glow to them. I will do a complete field strip and clean tomorrow. At $329 this was a steal.

I field stripped and cleaned one of them. It had a lot of gunk under the grips. Internally things looked good, very little discernible wear. The rubber grips on one side in one spot are worn smooth. It is on the left side of the gun near the rear of the grip. I would imagine it is wear from being carried. There are a few places that when one looks closely there are little nicks or light scratches. Overall though it is in very good shape. I still need to go shoot it but as of right now I am pretty pleased with it period. When I think that it was less than $350 OTD I feel really good about it.

I will strip and clean the other one another day. I have to try and get some real work done today.

What a joke...my cw9's trigger, while nice and smoothe, would hardly qualify as light, and definitley not prone to accidental discharge...nypd must have no less than a dozen officers that should not be carrying guns

Girodin, what is the production date of yours? I called Kahr and they said 11/03.

While NYPD has a dozen officers who are not competent to carry a gun, they employ thousands who have never seen a gun up close until they got on the force.

Asking for a long, DA trigger heavier than what Kahr currently can produce might make the gun less prone to setting it off when the officer didn't intend. If they really want a gun incapable of a negligent discharge, they could give everyone a gun that doesn' work at all. A super-heavy, long DA only trigger is really hard to manage. Expect marksmanship to decline even further.

Oh well. If they want to get rid of all those nice Kahrs, I'm happy to help them do it.

I'll try to look in the next few days. I noticed that the reason the front night sight on the one isn't glowing is that there simply is no lamp in the sight. There is just a hole in the sight.

My sights glow, there are precious few scratches-most isolated to the barrel hood and there was a healthy coating of old gummed up oil under the grips. Looks to be some copper streaking in the barrel but nothing that can't be taken care of. The trigger on mine (by memory) feels a good 2 lbs. lighter than my father's CW9 and not heavy at all. Very pleased.

If you go online to CDNN they will send you an email that coincides with all sales. No need to wait for paper to get to you. Just a little bit ago they sent me the ad for Smith M&P rebates.

I'm not at all familiar with this model of Khar. I recall that they are striker fired, can anyone describe what the trigger feels like?

The price sure is attractive.

I'll bite and give it a shot, no pun intended. Long, smooth, consistent, bit of stacking right at the end, easy to tell when it's about to break. That's how my Elite 98 felt anyway.

First impression after getting it home.

I've brought home dirtier guns from an IDPA match. This gun has barely been shot, and I've been around the block enough to know. I'd say this gun has 500 rounds thru it. And that is consistent with the amount of rounds I know most officers shoot through an issued gun.

The DA trigger is better than any revolver I've owned or shot. I own 4 Colt revolvers, a Ruger, and 3 Smiths. This trigger is better than all of them. It's better than the Sig 229 that I owned. It's simply awesome. It has some take up at the beginning, but is completely smooth the rest of the pull.

I cannot say how pleased I am to own this gun. Thank you Mayor Bloomberg for selling me a nearly new gun for a basement bargain price.

If you Google a pic you'll see the trigger guard is sort of a two-ring affair. From rest there is take-up to the start of that second loop then about 1/2" of travel similar to a nice DA revolver followed by about 3/16" of overtravel. If I were guessing I'd say no more than 6 1/2 lbs. on mine but smooth enough to be deceptive.

I finished the clean up and got a lot of carbon from the extractor channel. I shudder to think.

They look like they could use a good cleaning.
Understatement of the year, they are horribly dirty inside.

I picked up my two and started cleaning around 6 and finished around 9:30. One of them was so filled with thick sticky green grease on the firing pin, I don't know how it even moved after pulling the trigger. After removing the backing plate for the spring it felt like it was stuck in there and I was worried for a second. After removing all the thick grease inside they are great though. They appear to have been fired and just wiped down from the outside and little effort done to keep the insides clear of debrise. It looks like they maybe filled it full of oil on the interior and just wiped the exterior dry with a field strip. How that thick green grease got into the firing pin chamber, I don't know. Maybe the armorer just squirted it into the back of the slide where you see the firing pin spring until it started to ooze out of the hole where the pin exits to hit the primer. The extractor channel was full of gunk on both also. I actually felt sorry for the police officer who had the dirtier gun with the grease in the firing pin chamber. I can't imagine how the gun could even fire. As has been mentioned, the grips are worn some but no where near ready for a replacement. If they were replaced though, you'd be hard pressed to tell otherwise if it was used unless you really inspected it. The metal finish on the guns were almost new inside and out though after a good cleaning. Very little wear on the barrel and feed ramp if these guns really are nine years old. As far as the trigger, one of mine feels maybe a couple more pounds than my CW9, I guess around 10-11. I think my CW9 is close to the lower end ,7 lbs. that is mentioned about the Kahr triggers. The other one feels almost the same as my CW9. I can see that one being too light like the NY police dept. is claiming

Ok, time for some pics.

After a bit of cleaning, case and "lock" compliments of CDNN.

A bit of that gunk described. There is oh-so-light surface rust in a few spots including the slide serrations, nothing a bit of Kroil won't take out.

After a quick wipe down and some copper remover, an immaculate barrel and (in the shadows) beautifully polished feed ramp (that feeds XTP hollow points BTW)

And finally, the wee bit of surface wear I managed to find on the barrel hood. Most of it is polish wear with a bit of key scratching? mixed in.

After 28 years of gun ownership I can FINALLY say "I got a great deal!"

Skyler, your pictures aren't showing for me.

I just checked the date on the one I received. It's about 10 years old.

And it looks like it was hardly ever used.

Anyone else think the steel Kahr's are very sharp looking sexy guns? I just dig everything about them. The trigger guard, the font they use, the slide, the simple black rubber grips, etc, etc.
