Well, I may have found a deal on a Kahr K9 and was wondering what they are like? I have only handled one Kahr in the past and I did like it. From what I've heard, the quality is supposed to be 2nd to none! I appreciate any info!:)

Do a search on on TFL and you'll get a lot of info.

General consensus on the Kahr is, they're great guns, and the K9 MAY be the best of all.

After the factory-mandated 200 round break-in period these are VERY reliable guns, and I personally consider them to be the "Gold Standard" in todays CCW pistols.

When as conservative and hide-bound an organization as the New York City police department authorized the Kahr K9 for PD use, it HAS to be exceptional.

Most Kahr problems you hear about are on the polymer frames, and the micro MK series.

You rarely hear anything but praise for the K9.

I would agree with the above fromdfariswheel. My K9 (very early model) didn't even give me grief during the break-in period. A little pricy, I suppose, but I would say it is worth it

I really like my K9. It points very well for me. The trigger pull is a little long for someone (like me) used to SA. I understand that folks used to DA revolvers tend to like it more. You can swap parts to get Kahr's Elite trigger, which shortens the pull a little. I'll probably do that sometime soon.

Thanks for the info. I see TFL is down at this time. Does anyone have a rough idea what a K9 is worth used?

Prices vary so much but I can give you a very rough price if it is a non-Elite K-9 SS with regular sights and in nice shape. About $450 give or take. Could be more or maybe you get lucky and can get one for less but $450 should give you an idea of the deal you may be getting.

Can I ask what the asking price is on the gun you are looking at?

It is not an Elite, is stainless and has about 800 rds through it. Looks to be in fine shape. They are asking $360.00

"They are asking $360.00" That is a good price in my neck of the woods. I would buy it at that price but see if they will come down anyway. If they don't come down, it is still a good deal. If you could get it for $350 OTD, I'd say you would be getting a GREAT deal.

I just bought mine for $345 OTD. There were half a dozen used Kahrs in the case and they were all way more except for a used E-9 that was $399. The SS K-9 was only $350 and it was in like new shape with all factory stuff includeing the extra mag. There was another used K-9 right beside it that looked the same and they wanted $550 for it. When I asked to see the $350 Kahr, I was looking to see if there was anything wrong with it. I asked why was it so much cheaper than the other Kahrs in the case and he said they took the one I was looking at in trade with a bunch of other guns from one guy and I guess they didn't have a lot in this particular Kahr so they could let it go for a good price. Some of the other guns were consignment guns so the price varies a great deal on those. I asked if $350 was the best price and the guy said they could take $25 off, I jumped on it. I was going to pay the $350 because around here that is a very good price for a K-9.

I can't say enough good things about the Kahr K-9 and the E-9 that I had. Without doubt it is the best medium sized, single stack 9mm auto ever made! If fits my hand like no other gun ever has and I can shoot it as well as larger guns because of the decent trigger and great pointability and grip. It is better than the SIG 239, H&K P-7, and any other gun I have tried to date.

I picked up the gun today and am very happy with it. I do not think there has been too may rounds through it. I read in another forum that recoil springs on these go bad quick. Should I get a new one?

I have a K-9, and it's very nice. Good trigger, great ergonomics, quite accurate, reliable, etc. No regrets in buying it.

On the recoil spring issue, I believe that the factory recommends changing them every 2000 rounds or so.

FWIW,

For the Kahr K-9, the factory recomends changing the recoil spring every 3000 rounds. For some of the other Kahrs, they do recomend a change after 2000 rounds. It is in your owner's manual if you got one with your gun. If you didn't get one, call Kahr and they will send you one out for free.

Nice gun, I would be envious if I didn't have one myself.:D

My Kahr K9 is like my Glock, except with more weight, less capacity and a longer trigger reset.

It appears you bought an early model K9 (sans the unnecessary future-model “frame enhancementsâ€) with the excellent factory electroless nickel finish. I bought an identical K9 in ’96 that continues to impress me today. They truly do embody the word “qualityâ€, especially the earlier specimens.

Some say they share the same “ugliness†gene as the Glock, but I think there's a certain aesthetic appeal to it.

I’m sure your purchase will live up to and quite possibly surpass your expectations of what a quality concealable pistol should be.

Albanian is correct. The recoil spring should be changed at 3,000 rounds. The 2,000 figure is for the Lady Kahr, with the weaker recoil spring. Sorry about that......

P.S. My K-9 is also the electroless nickel. Be careful what solvents you use. Some are not compatible with nickel finishes.

Can I change the direction of this thread? What loads do you all carry in you K-9 / E-9s?
I have been using Federal Hi-Shoks in my 97 built E-9.
The reason I ask, is that my E-9 does not like to clear live JHP rounds that tend to have a flat ogive. I came upon the Hi-Shok, it cronos at almost 1100 fps from my E-9, but most importantly it has an ogive that is very near a ball round. It ejects these live rounds just fine. Anyone else experience this?

Peashooter, I posted an addition to my 135gr Gold Dot thread in the revolver forum that included a couple photos of expanded 147gr Rangers from my K9 after two and four layers of denim.
I've settled on that load for my K9... it offers deep penetration, excellent accuracy and positive (albeit a bit spiky) expansion.

Thanks snowdog for the info!

After I looked at the gun, I realized it was nickel. It is hard to tell in the pics, but some of it has worn off. Looks like holster wear. I have heard that Hoppes will hurt a nickel finish.
