Kahr K9 NYPD trade in $299

However, if I lived in NY it would likely concern me and not just make me happy that it has led to me getting a smoking deal on a good gun.

Well, here's the ironic part: CDNN won't sell handguns to NY residents. No way, no how.

I don't live in New York City. I live upstate and have my CCW permit. My FFL is a former LEO. It's all perfectly legit and legal, but they just won't do it.

Bloomberg scared them off. They caved to the antis. Cowards.

AIM and J&G get all my business now. They ain't scared. :neener:

Just picked up my K9. I paid a little extra for one that came in the box, which was matching and still included all the original paperwork. The gun itself is in terrific condition for a service piece--a little holster polishing on the slide and frame and some light wear on the grip.

As for the trigger that was too "unsafe" for the NYPD? It is outstanding.

I agree. It is outstanding.

I took mine apart last night. There was some gunk under the grips, looked like carbon residue, some dirt and a little bit of stickiness that happens when certain types of cleaning solvents contacts rubber grips. It all came off quickly.

The slide had very little carbon in the striker area or other parts of the interior of the slide. The extractor channel needed a pipe cleaner run through it. But I saw no brass particles in it anywhere, and I see brass particles in all my guns after a big match or a training class.

I saw no copper build-up or residue in the barrel. In fact the chamber was clean as a whistle, and so was the barrel.

Carried a lot, shot a little. Pretty typical of police-issue guns. What a bargain!

Called this morning and they were out. :banghead:

Its unfortunate, I do not follow gun stuff as closely as I used to and I missed out. I've wanted a K9 for years. I asked the guy if they would get anymore in and he said he didn't know because its hard to stay with police trade ins.

I have a feeling, even if they get more in they won't be $300.

Anyone else think the steel Kahr's are very sharp looking sexy guns? I just dig everything about them. The trigger guard, the font they use, the slide, the simple black rubber grips, etc, etc.

Agreed. I hate that I just had to sell my K40 and want a K9 to replace it very very badly. They are fantastic guns.
You guys are making me jealous, lemme tell ya....

OK . . . So if you all are like me, you just bought a new carry gun and don't have a holster for it.

For a few years now I've had a local fellow, Joel Rybacki, make leather for me. I've owned really nice stuff from Rusty Sherrick and Milt Sparks over the years, and the leather Joel has made for me has been every bit as good, without the ungodly long wait times. And his prices are a LOT less.

I called him this afternoon and told him a bunch of us just bought some Kahr K9s, and if I announced it here, would he be up for making a lot of leather in a big batch.

He said yes. So, next Thursday night I'm going to give him mine and have him start making me a strong side Outside the Waistband holster. He's also going to make my friend's wife a lady-friendly holster - the hips they have and all don't let our holsters work as nicely.

If you want one, say so here. Joel will check in and give price quotes.

Here's some examples of his other work -

He's always charged the same price for me, left or right handed.

It's going to depend on what you want. I've gotten several Sharkskin holsters for well less than $100.00.

In fact, that is my Hi Power in a nice custom made (to my specs) sharkskin. I bought enough shark hide for him to make me several right up front. Think that one might have cost me $60.00, but I don't remember for sure. It wasn't over $80.00, that much I do remember.

Keep in mind Ken, you paid for the skin so there was no exotic premium. My current prices can be found on my web site.

Either you guys just crashed the poor server or my phone's browser is, er, challenged. Time to fire up the PC. By the by, would anyone know how close a CW9 is to the K9? I know there's no border cut on the slide but haven't had the two side-by-side yet.

Joel,

I can't get your site to load for me, either. Call your ISP and yell at them. Unless they're in one of those areas that got hit by those destructive thunderstorms, in which was no one will answer.

Just post your prices here.

I think Joel owns a CW9, so in that case you're golden.

Switched name servers the other day and something got screwed up. I have corrected it but it could take a few hours to propagate to other name servers.

Yes, I own a CW9. The main differences are the flutes cut into the side of the K9 and P9 do not exist on the CW9, the CW9 has a traditional rifled barrel versus the polygonal barrel or the other two, and the take-down pin on the CW9 is MIP versus the milled version on the other two.

For those new owners of the K9, please be sure to remove the grip panels every so often and give the frame a good cleaning. If you do not, it will pit over time. I know from experience.

Just read through the thread. For those who want to convert this to the smooth and light elite trigger, you simply need to buy the elite trigger parts. Did this to my old K40 Covert. Everything was drop-in. There are plenty of how-tos on the web if you do a search.

Yup, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Did we use it all up already?

Nope, enough for another holster and maybe some bling on a few more.

Just meant external dimensions wise but moot seeing as you've got one. Dad has one and is a southpaw to boot. Mentioning lefties and a batch of custom holsters for Kahrs got me thinking is all.

Speaking of funky Internet problems, and on topic for those who may communicate via the web (like when ordering holsters) now would be a good time to check for the DNS virus scheduled to hit Monday, July 9th. I'm sure Mr. Rybacki doesn't want dozens of holsters laying about without further means of communication. Having seen the above work I look forward to his site and thank you Ken for doing the legwork.

Site's working for me now, Joel.

I think we'll make this one a shark skin, too.

Bah, no problem. Joel's a good friend. And I'm happy to promote an up-and-coming leather craftsman in the business who does exceptional work.

If you want one, order one. I'll let Joel keep my K9 as a model for as long as it takes to fulfill your orders. Well, until Fall anyway . . . so don't dither over it too long.

Gotta bring this one back with a quick report. Passed the 700 round mark including 300 without cleaning or lubrication shooting hand loads (Hornady XTP HP). A few shots after disassembly and two of the feed ramp dirty/ after wiping with a dry t-shirt.

And one more after reassembly and polishing out the scratches on the barrel hood (from previous owner).

So is anyone tired of their $300 Kahr yet? I may be able to solve that problem for you.

(still kicking myself for not ordering one of these the day I read about it...)

I got in on the second wave and kick myself for not buying a half dozen! Also, I just realized after scrolling past my own threads, why they have Hands Models...Yikes!
