I have a k9 that I just picked up and I ordered some new recoil springs since kahr suggest that you change them every 3000 rounds. I have 2300 rounds thru it right now, and when I look at the original spring and the ones that I just ordered from Wolfe which are factory standard 20 lb. springs, the wolfe spring is about a 1/2 longer. Do these springs compress that much after this many rounds? I believe that kahr uses wolfe springs for there guns. Anyone know?

Yep, its very common for recoil springs to be quite a bit longer for a new replacement vs a hammered old one. Kahrs are brutal on the recoil springs as are all powerful guns with a short slide throw.

Shoot well.

I've compared new factory K9 springs to the Wolff 20-pounders and the Wolffs are consistently longer.

Also, Wolff may have just designed the spring to be longer. Longer springs generally offer superior consistency through the slide's stroke.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for link and explaining this to me about the springs. Just wanted to make sure that I had the right one.:)

Just to be on the safe side, it's always a good idea to check for the spring stacking. Take the recoil spring out and retract the slide and either make a mental note or mark the dust cover where it stops, then put the new recoil spring in and retract the slide again making sure it doesn't stop before it gets to that point otherwise the spring has "gone solid" and could cause the slide to crack.

I have a 97 vintage E-9, a K-9 minus dove-tail cut front sights and finish, and I have replaced my springs every 750 - 1000 rounds. As it was said before these things eat springs, replace them, they are cheap.

I haven't had any FTF yet. I have read in reviews that kahr suggest to change them every 3000, but when Kahr got back to me with voicemail Dottie quoted about every 1500 rounds.

I just got two new ones. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

Not just Kahr K9s.

My Caspian Officer's ACP has a 3.5" barrel, and is brutal on the recoil springs. I usually buy a two-pack or even more of replacement Wolff springs, both for the Officer's ACP, Kahr K9, and Desert Eagle MkI. ;)
