Kahr .40S&W Micro Polymer Opinions wanted

I'm looking for a better pocket gun to replace my old AMT .380, which has been great but now seems a little light for personal defense.

Kahr has just come out with their micro polymer frame in .40 S&W (Kahr MP 4043A). I've heard though that it kicks like a mule and has a VERY heavy trigger.

Anyone have any experience/opinions with this gun? I'd like to get some info before I order one (and end up dissappointed).

You mean PM40? I have a PM9 and absolutely love it. I would not think that the .40 would be uncontrollable. I had a Glock 27 .40 and it was not hard to shoot.
Have never shot a PM40 but if it is anything like my PM9 I would say go for it. About 400 rounds through the PM9 now and not one problem.

I see you're in Detroit. My advice is to call around to the numerous area gun ranges and see who has that gun as a range rental. It would be well worth your while, even if you have to drive across town. (I shot one at The Firing Line in Westland). There is peace of mind in ordering a gun that you have had personal experience with.

No one else's assessment counts; only yours. Your hand, your money.

lol i thought u meant the WW2 mp40!
Which basically IS a handgun if you think about it.....

I have owned the P9 and P40 as well as a Glock 27... My experience was that the P40 kicked significantly more than the P9, and noticeably more than the 27. Although not unbearable, it was very similar to my S&W 642 with +P ammo. The super slim profile of the Polymer Kahr magnifies the recoil impulse compared to most other pistols like Glock. I can tell you that everyone who ever fired it commented on the recoil. Occasional shooters would hand it back after 1 or 2 shots. I never fired more than one box per session at the range, and usually less. And before I get too much flack about recoil, my usual range gun is an HK USP45, followed by a Walther P99 in .40, and a USP40 Compact. The P40 had more kick than any of those.

I'm not trying to dissuade you, but you asked, so I wanted to make sure you got an honest opinion from someone who'd shot both.

Good luck...
