Kansas and Nebraska gun shops: what gives?

Great idea!

Minor point on the maps: The San Francisco Bay Area is definately Nothern Califronia, not Southern California! A good dividing line is the straight line on you map that goes all the way across the state just above San Luis Obispo.

Well,since I moved up here from Oklahoma I'll let the "natives" make the Kansas jokes Part of the problem that you're having Monkeyleg is that some counties just don't have many people or gunshops.Heck,down in the "people's republic of Lawrence there is just Lunkers and they sell more bait than bullets.Cabelas opened a huge store in KCK so that's pulling a TON of business from the small shops.

Shangai, what you just described--Cabellas and Lunkers--is what I've been hoping this site could address, at least to some degree. It's very easy to find a local chain store on the internet, but it's very hard to find the individually-owned shops. This site, I hope, would help level the playing field.

We'll see what happens. What I'm seeing on the part of gun shop owners is what I've witnessed on the part of gun owners in general: that they and we tend to be reactive rather than proactive, and don't respond until the wolf is inside the door.

If you click on the star next to Milwaukee, you'll see that there are just two gun shops in the city or the immediate suburbs. Not too many years ago there were seven or eight, maybe even more. Meanwhile, Walmart and Gander Moutain have taken over.

In a city south of here, I had a shop owner tell me to call him in six months. He's been there forever, but a Gander Mountain store just went up down the road. He wasn't sure if he'll be able to stay in business for even six months once they target him.
