Right now, for carrying, I use a Kahr CW40, and I absolutely love it. I have been looking at a p-3at lately for pocket carrying when even the CW40 is too big. What are ya'lls experience with this gun? A friend of mine had a p-9 that I was very unimpressed with (light striker hits, failure to extract), so I'm a little wary of Kel Tec.

I carry one as a back up when on duty and carry it off duty when nothing else will fit. I've had it for a couple of years, it's been a great gun, 100% reliable, accurate, and super easy to carry and conceal. I keep it loaded with Triton 95gr +p HP's.

200 - 300 rounds is recommended.

Use good grease, not oil, on the slide rails, barrel cam, and barrel lock-up surfaces.
Clean & lube every 50 rounds until break-in is complete.

Go here for complete KT info. They are a great bunch of guys, and can/will help you with anything you might ask about!

Hmmmm.

I have to admit, I'm giving some thought to trading in my m37 for one of these. While I shoot the J-frame pretty well, and my husband shoots it VERY well, still, it only carries 5, and shooting SD ammo out of it for practice is an exercise in pain.

How many rounds does it carry?

I carry the P3AT as a pocket gun and love it. I only have approximately 200 rounds through it with one failure to feed. I wouldn't say that it is a pleasure to shoot, but that is not why I have it.

I bought an extra magazine with the extension so I have 8 rounds in the gun plus an extra 6 round magazine.

It is fairly accurate... and I must steal this line from another member again. The gun is Badguy MOA.

heh. Minute of Badguy would work for me. I'm also interested in the p3AT

Mine's a second gen and has somewhere around 600 rounds through it. It's eaten ball and a few different varieties of JHPs all without a hiccup. It's not fun for extended range sessions, but it's more comfortable to me than shooting standard pressure .38 Specials out of my Colt Cobra. Accuracy is surprising. At seven paces I can hit a coke can 5 out of 6 shots when I do my part. That's where these guns get fun; seeing how much accuracy you can wring out of the little boogers. Good trigger control, "front sight squeeze-front sight, front sight-squeeze."

RE: P3at accuracy

My gun is very accurate for it's size. We shoot the same qualifying course of fire with our BUGs as our duty weapons. We shoot from 1yd to 25yds, several different drills, from the draw, kneeliing, prone, etc. We have to run through it twice, back to back to qualify. I had no trouble shooting 49/50 and 48/50 with my Kel-tec.

Not a problem with mine...

One of the better autoloaders for the price. Unlike many others, I did not carry JHP's in mine but UMC 95 gr FMJ's instead. I didn't sell it because it was not reliable because it certainly was. I sold it because for some reason, I could not fire it accurately at any distance, unlike my other guns.

I'm certainly happy with my P3AT.

And I agree with rcmodel in that grease, rather than oil, seems to work best.

Slipped into a pocket holster and then into the front pocket of a pair of cargo shorts, and it simply disappears.

Accuracy should not be an issue with me, as I feel it would remain in my pocket unless I could smell a BG's breath.

In my experience, the P3AT isn't a very comfortable pistol to shoot.

No but it's a comfortable pistol to carry, which means it won't get left at home.

I shoot mine 15-20 times each range session tops. That keeps the pain down but still allows for some practice.

Doing a 100 round range marathon with the thing is something you couldn't get me to do.

I had never seen one in person nor shot a Kel Tec until yesterday. I would best describe it as a "get off me gun". It did not seem very accurate at all. Five feet is the max range maybe.

It is at best a bug.

I must be special. I can put 100 rounds downrange in one session with only minor soreness and no bleeding. :D

No malfs with mine, love it. I had an issue with the blueing on the slide rusting and KelTec replaced the slide at no cost and no hassle.

Im283... I agree that it is a "get off me gun" or BUG but I have to disagree regarding the accuracy. With quality ammo I can easily place 12 rounds in a group under 3" at 12 yards, and I have put 6 rounds into a ragged <1" hole at the same distance. The sights are almost nonexistant, so rapid fire opens the group up but still perfectly acceptable accuracy for it's intended purpose.

I have the P32 version with a parkerized slide. The parkerized finish looks like it was done by Stevie Wonder but its never rusted or shown any unusual wear so I don't really care.

The gun has been very reliable. I don't enjoy shooting it but it's in my pocket almost all the time.

In fact, I've found that I have to clean it frequently even when I don't shoot it because the darn thing fills up with pocket lint even in a holster! Lint seems to dry up the oil pretty well, too.

I've been thinking about picking up the P3AT as a possible replacement to my P32 now that I own other .380 pistols.

Me, too

I've put a couple hundred rounds through mine without a stutter. Recoil is stout, but not unmanageable.

I recommend the hard-chrome model--from what I've seen on ktog.org, they seem to have fewer out-of-the-box problems.

I put a HiViz sight on mine, according to some instructions I found at the ktog site; it's not so good for precision, but for instant sight acquisition at combat range it's amazing.

I don't think you could buy a better pocket pistol for the money. It's a little bigger than a bi-fold wallet when in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. It's very reliable. And it's cheap enough that you don't mind it get beat up in your pocket. Recoil is sharp, but manageable. Accuracy is good enough. I can keep all six shots on a eight inch plate at 25yds. I doubt I will ever need to take a real life shot with it at 25yds. Sure a Seecamp is nicer, but no way I'm putting that expensive a piece in my pocket every day.

A Seacamp will kick the living snot out of your hand with the same ammo that is fairly pleasant to shoot in a P3AT.

Blow-back Seacamp vis Locked-breach KT.

Even a much heavier & bigger PPK/S Walther hurts far worse then a P3AT for the same reason.

My P3AT is an all the time weapon for me. I put it on when I get dressed and take it off before I go to bed. Forget I have it, most of the time. Very reliable when shooting. For the first 100 rounds it would sometimes need an extra push to go into battery when chambering the first round from a new magazine. Never happened when actually firing. This issue went away quickly.

In the summers here I wear shorts and t-shirt a lot, so often I carry a heavier weapon in the car and only have my P3AT in a wallet holster. When it cools off I carry both on my person.
