The path less chosen...
I'll soon be moving to a "shall issue" state and will carry.I have a P32 that will be used and also have 2 PA-63's.Ive been toying with the idea of getting a P11,but in general dont like heavy trigger pull DAO's.I'm not sure if i could do the trigger modifications without having to be admitted to a mental institution. The 63 would be a nice choice as its not excessively heavy (neither is the P11) and i know the 9x18 is adequate for defense as is 9x19 of the p11.Any thoughts or opinions?
Also,does anyone have a pic of a 63 slide to slide with a P11?
:)

I can't imagine the P-11 trigger could be any heavier than the DA PA-63 trigger based on what I've heard about it. The P-11 trigger is 8.5 lbs., it is longer than it is heavy. The mod isn't very hard to do, just need to plunge right in and do it. Now having said that, I have not done it to mine yet but will soon. I've studied what needs to be done & have taken my P-11 apart before so it shouldn't present any problems.

TropicalZ,

You can significantly decrease the double action weight-of-pull on your PA63's by installing the lighter mainsprings from Makarov.com. Also, you could carefully cut down the factory mainspring one loop at a time until you find a lighter pull...however, if you take off too much spring, then you may have malfunctions.

I've carried a PA63 CCW for kicks, but cannot do it on a regular basis, due to lefty unfriendly safety. I feel the hotter 9x18 ammo is perfectly adequate for self-defense ammo.

I'd get the P-11. Its lighter, has a hotter round, will hold 10 rounds in a stock mag, and 12 or 15, if you use S&W mags.

The guns are durable, and reasonably accurate. And for up-close-and-personal self-defense applications, very good guns.

Guns are sssoooo difficult!
Im not much of a gunsmith, but maybe ill order a spring from M.com and give it a whirl. How hard is the change? Maybe ill go ahead and also get the P11.It wouldnt kill me!

There's a lot more to carrying than the gun. Since you already have a PA-63, it can be a good trainer for you. Maybe you'll find you like it just fine as a CCW.

Because of some of the other factors in bringing a gun rapidly into a social situation from concealment when needed, I only carry DAOs, and I find the Kel Tecs perfect for the job, IMO.

The biggest deal for you will be drawing and firing from concealment learned, of course, in the privacy of your own home with a carefully thought out dry fire protocol.

To time your effectiveness (as well as study your technique), a video camera is a great aid.

Good luck! :D

Changing the mainspring is a breeze. You'll need a hammer and a punch.

Gently tap out the retaining pin at the bottom/rear of the backstrap. Be careful, as the mainspring will shoot out of there at a high velocity. I suggest easing another punch in from the opposite side as you tap out the retainer, and gently ease out the mainspring. Reverse the process and you're ready to roll! You'll be surprised at the difference in pull weight.

Blackhawk is right, it's not just the gun.... So whichever pistol you decide to carry, practice practice practice!
:)
