Bought a used kel tec p32. The magazine inserts all the way flush with the bottom of the grip, but after I insert it the mag is pushed back as if a release spring is pushing it back. The mag release holds the mag in place, but there is about a 1/8 or so inch gap between the mag plate and bottom of the grip frame. The mag release looks to be polymer. Is it possible the mag release catch is worn, or is this normal?

Yes, they wear out, especially if you slam the mag home doing speed loads.

It's good form to hold the button down when changing mags normally
+1 -- the plastic magazine catch doesn't tolerate much abuse. Save the mag slams for reload training and dire emergencies. For normal loading and regular range use, baby it.

Yes. Poly. Wears out. Depress the mag release when loading and unloading to extend the life of the mag catch. There used to be some guy on the Kel Tec forum that made a metal catch for the P32 but I can't locate the guy any more. As an aside, there are SS mag catches available on eBay for the P11. The PF9 now comes with a steel catch. I guess them folks at KT don't think the P32 & P3AT are gonna be shot very much.

Thanks

I just got the p32 this week and haven't taken it to the range yet.

It's a low serial number gen 1, so I imagine it has seen a round or two.

This is pretty normal. Not sure why you would want to change it unless it is causing malfunctions, which mine does not.

Well, one of my questions was "is this normal". Been in the gun and shooting hobby many years. This is my first foray into polymer.

It isn't a problem with Poly guns in general.

Just Kel-Tec's poly guns.

They use steel mag's, and the punched out hole for the mag catch is sharper then a woodpeckers lips.

(I polished the rough edges off mine and it seeded to help, a LOT!!

Other guns, like Glock for instance, use poly mags and poly mag releases and you can't wear them out.

Steel mag catches - check the KTOG board.
Seems to me at one time you could even get them from KelTec
I have one somewhere that I never got around to installing.
