Kel Tec PF-9: Oh Snap!

Watched the video. I would have also mentioned the PF-9 5lb trigger pull, which is unusual for such a small gun & a positive IMO. I sold my LC9... hated the 9lb pull. I'm far more accurate w/PF9 v LC9, of course JMO.

I have not experienced the recoil you mentioned in the video?

BTW, which vendor has the +1 mag grip extension. If, I missed the name I. The video my apologies.

I really prefer the heavier, longer trigger of my P11, but I've shot it a lot and can hit well with it. It's a pocket carry, so long and heavy DAO is a good thing IMHO. JMHO, though. Some folks can't shoot true DA. Revolvers have waned in popularity and the DA shooting art has waned with 'em.

I bought my finger extension (for my spare mag) from a LGS that stocked them, but the KT site has ALL the accessories.

I had a P11 and hated it, the plastic rear sight slide around in it's dovetail and I couldn't get used to that long, heavy trigger.

Soldiernurse, you're welcome
I just ordered the magazines with the extension already installed, because I'm lazy ... and last time I checked they had their extended 8x magazines for the same price retailers were charging for 7x mags.

mgregg85, I'm not sure what that has to do with the pf9, and why didn't you fix the rear sight or have KT fix it? A rear sight isn't rocket surgery, it (or the dovetail) needs to be bonked so it stays in by tension, shimmed, or glued ... or replaced with an in-spec part by the manufacturer.

It was a known problem with the early guns. I got mine in 96, well before the PF9 was offered, and had read a test in one of the magazines that complained about the sight. I just dropped a drop of super glue on mine after testing it the first time out and making sure windage was on, as did the magazine writer. Never ever had a problem in 11K + rounds since. The problem WAS addressed early on my Kel Tec and I don't know that mine would have ever had the problem, just figured glue wouldn't hurt anything. As for the trigger, I shoot mine well, quite used to it. If you don't like the trigger, it's a software problem. Practice cures that, but the PF9, which is the subject of this thread, does have a shorter, lighter trigger. It doesn't have second strike capability, though, if that matters to you. Really wouldn't matter to me, not with decent ammo. I don't recall ever having a cap on a newish box of centerfire ammo not go bang, and I mean, I ain't going to carry 50 year old milsurp for carry ammo. The PF9 is also thinner and a couple ounces lighter and only has a few rounds less capacity. Were i buying today and choosing between the two, I'd probably go with the PF9, though I really like the trigger better for a pocket gun on the P11 for purely safety reasons, much as I like my revolver's DA triggers.

One of the things Kel-Tec has on their list of things to do -- and they've said they're working on it -- is a P-11 with the PF-9 trigger. You lose the "restrike" capability, but gain a much better shooting P-11, with a much higher capacity than the PF-9, and it's still ALMOST pocket-carry size. (Takes big pockets, though...<grin>)

I had a P-11, and could NEVER get used to the trigger. I shot other guns, too. I tried it in an IDPA match once, and just couldn't hit crap on my first scenario. After that it was fine -- it took a shot or two to RELEARN the trigger. I got to thinking that if I was going to keep shooting other guns, too, the P-11 wasn't a good carry gun for me. (It had been my carry gun until that point.)

I've not had that problem with PF-9; while not the best trigger, it is quite similar to how other triggers feel. A P-11 (with the wider grip and higher capacity) and the PF-9 trigger seems like a good hybrid, and I'll probably get one. (I had a Kahr P9, which I liked a lot, except for the 7 or 8 round capacity. But, someone literally made me an offer that I couldn't resist, and I sold it. I bought the PF-9 soon after. I prefer the P9 to the PF-9, but the PF-9 is more than good enough, and the PF-9 price is substantially less -- more bang for the $buck, so to speak.)

I did the same and scored slower than my P90, but scored pretty well. Main problem I had was the short sight radius, but over the years, I've gotten a lot better at point shooting it.

I used the gun once to stop an attacking chow dog and, with the adrenalin up, you'd be amazed how light that trigger feels. I didn't even notice it, felt like a custom 1911 comp gun.

I score pretty well, too -- but the issue that concerned me the most was that my first few shots, after not having shot for a while, were problematic. In the real world, I might not have another couple of shots to get adjusted to the trigger -- the first couple of shots are critical.

I carried my P11 a lot, but shot other guns, too. The transition from a more conventional trigger to the P11 trigger was the issue, for me, that I couldn't overcome. Which is why I'm now using a PF-9, not a P11.

I've never had this problem, but I've put a LOT more rounds through that P11 than all my other 26 handguns other than my .22s. Every gun I own has a different trigger. I don't sweat it if I shoot the gun a lot, know what to expect.
