Hi all,
I was hoping to get some insight on which of the above two carbines you would consider better
for home defense/plinking. I'm sticking with the 9mm round due to the fact that I have a few 9mm pistols ( glock, beretta) and I think it would be easier just to have one round to deal with instead of one caliber for the carbine then a different one for the pistol, I realize it is NO big deal to have weapons chambered in different calibers, I'm just trying to keep it simple for me.
Has anyone had any expierence with the above carbines, was it good or bad, I'd also like to know your thoughts on quality (I know these are NOT top dollar weapons). do either of the above two carbine accept either Glock or Beretta magazines? I'm sorry I haven't really done my homework on them plus I like to hear from "real world" users of the weapon to see how they like them
Thanks
J

The Kel-Tec can take Glock or Beretta mags, depending on which version you get. That is its biggest benefit IMO. It is also lighter, and folds, however if you want to fold it, you won't be able to run an optic. The Hi-Points are about half the price, and generally more accurate, but heavier, and have proprietary 10 rd mags.

Hi,

I've got a Hi-Point 995TS (that's the newer style 9mm model). I've had good luck with it and have had a lot of fun. I'm comfortable with it for plinking and home defense. I've also had good luck with the aftermarket 15 round Pro-Mag magazines. The Hi-Point is inexpensive and it shows (take a close look at the rear sight adjustment for example) but it is functional. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, "Functional is as functional does" and for some that's beauty enough.

I've held the Kel-Tec and found the Hi-Point seems to fit me better but of course that's something only you can decide. Being able to use your existing magazines would be a big convenience for the Kel-Tec. The folding feature may fit in the "that's neat" catagory vs. "that's really useful" but again that's for each person to decide.

Good luck whichever way you go (and here's wishing a boat load of money falls your way so you can consider the Beretta 9mm carbine as well!). I think the 9mm carbines are just a hoot to shoot.

high points are heavier, more durable more accurate and generally speaking more reliable.

keltecs have higher ammo capacity.
pick your poison.

I had a hi-point. Worth every cent. The after market stock I put on it took some effort (screw holes didn't align) but it never bobbled a round. I only parted with it when an AR came calling!

Hi point has better ergonomics, IMO. But it lacks a decent ammo capacity. They are rugged and fairly accurate. They are also much more optic friendly.

The Kel-Tec does take Glock, Beretta and S&W (for the 59 series) mags, with the Glock bein the most popular/ common. I prefer the charging handle on the Hi Point over the KT.

If I had to purchase another 9mm or .40S&W carbine, I'd probably get another Hi Point. I do sometimes regret selling it. The only downside I saw to the Hi Point was mags.

On the other hand, if I found a KT that accepted the S&W mags, I'd be serious tempted as I could then share mags with my pistol.
