knife or hatchet?

Never could understand packing the extra weight of a hatchet or axe. I take a leatherman for utility, a Wescott drop point while hunting and a folding/Wyoming saw if I need it.
The Colorado Rockys have never made me feel under equiped with these items. If I am near the truck a chainsaw is usually available as is an axe.

You obviously miss my point AG, I can't imagine a case in which I would need to cut anything larger than a Wyoming Saw or a folding Browning Saw would do. I don't build settlements in the wilderness and when off the beaten path wood for fire is very abundant. I'll make the weight trade for a hatchet or ax to a better pad or shelter anyday.
