Knife v. Gun - Mythbusters style

If you do some force on force you will see at combat range many times the guy with the knife will win Most people still believe that one shot with the gun will stop the attacker. That is what movies are for nothing like the real world

My severed head will attempt to bite any attacker -sorry. :D

Anyway, Owen is correct and FOF demonstrates the risks. FOF is also good for demonstrating how to move to divert the attacker's path. Since we can't all be young and in shape for flying kicks, we can learn to get off the X.

The point is well taken that some of the drills assume you have time to see the attack. A knife class demonstrates some blocks and that close in surprises are horrors. Despite, claims of situational awareness at all times on the Internet, that isn't always the case.

With regards to the original subject, what does this also teach us? Get off the X! A person bumrushing you with a knife is not going to be able to change directions as quickly as you are, and by running sideways you'll be able to avoid his charge as well as give yourself more time to draw and fire.

I just realized that this might be a place where cross-dominance comes in handy. I'm RH/LE, which means if my strong hand (for martial arts) is being used for hand-to-hand, my strong hand (for gun) is free to draw.
