Ok, the Knob Creek MachineGun Shoot is scheduled for the first weekend in April, just 5 short weeks away. It looks like I'm actually going to be able to go this year. I'll have money and vacaton time at work. What better way to spend them than a weekend of full-auto fun?

So, who else is planning to be there? I know there is usually a large representation from THR, so I figured I'd hook up with some of y'all and have a fun weekend. I'll probably camp out, unless my future father-in-law is able to come, then we'll most likely stay in an area hotel. (He broke his back 20 years ago in a helicopter crash and sleeping on the ground is very rough on him.) If anyone that will be going has an extra sleeping bag and room in a tent, I'd be very grateful. That would save me from having to buy a tent and bag for one weekends' use. In return, I'll gladly help out with food, cooking, camp chores and tall-tale telling.

Given the large number of friendly people on this board, we should be able to have a big get-together. So, speak up, let's make plans for a great weekend of fun, friends and guns.

Frank

PS - Mods, any chance you can float this like you did for the SHOT Show thread? Thanks

Every six months we make plans on going & just like clockwork every 6 months something comes up in the emergency dept that prevents it :fire: .

That said, this year we are planning on coming down for the day on Sat. I'll have on my black ML hat & be surrounded by a herd of wide eyed 8 year olds (we're trying to bring most of my Cub Scout den & parents down with us :D ).

Greg

I'll be there. We go every time they have it. We only go on Saturday. It's about a 3 hour drive, but worth every minute of it.

Greg, you're my kind of scout leader :D

Where is Knob Creek at?

4thhorseman, it's in the Louisville, KY metro area. About midway between the city proper and the Ft. Knox Army base.

Our company's inventory is that week, but if I can get them to count fast enough, I'll be there Saturday. The usual THR meeting place is behind the pole barn around high noon.

I guess this just became the official Knob Creek spring rallying thread.

Bogie, you're up!!

Unless something comes up last minute, we'll be there on Saturday only.

I know last time we did not get a chance to meet up (the cell phones just would not work) but we can ride together is anyone is interested.

damn, that'd be almost a 7 hour drive from here, but it sure would be fun.

I'm assuming non full-auto types are welcome too, right? ;)

Okay... Looking like Bogie's Bus will be driving down either Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Arne's got a table this year, so we're actually gonna be organized... Yeah, right...

Arne and Linda _may_ get married on the range... Depends upon temperature of feet, among other things (grin).

If that happens, I get to carry the shotgun.

We're camping, and will have room for guests.

Bring your own bedding. If you're bringing someone who doesn't like to sleep on the ground, bring a cot or a lawn chair.

1995 Chevy 3/4 ton Jayco conversion van, Missouri plates, with a giant blow-up Shiner Bock bottle on the roof and a grey canopy tent next door.

I should be there again this spring. My time is usually limited though  .

I have never been able to meet any THRers there so far but if there are dates/times/locations posted here I would love to.

It takes me a whole 30 minutes to drive there from my house! :neener:

wont make it this spring,,but this fall maybe,,

ah yes nothing like the annual pilgrimage to KC,,the old bolt rifle shoot, and the semi shoot,,and of course the night shoot on the main range,,(had a video camera along one time, that when the 50s opened up,,,it would go out of focus,,had to put it on manual:what: so it wouldnt fuzz out,,),,we always stayed at brooks (not as crowded as shepardsville),

we always try to go once a yr,,keeps the wife happy,,(she has family at louisville,,and I get to spend the day or 2 at the creek,,:D )

Any more thoughts on caravaning (sp) from TN? Or hooking up while there?

if anyone is going up for just like saturday from the mid tenn area, and wouldnt mind a co-pliot id be willing to be talked into it. i can drive a stick as well...so good to switch off driving ;). Just dont want to camp or spend much money on such an outting.

I've not been in about 4 years, but I'll be there this Saturday. I don't mean to piss in anyone's cornflakes, but it seems like the last time I was there they weren't allowing any loaded weapons in except for the class 3 guys on the line. Anyone know for sure one way or another?

Me too. Hey, you aren't me, are you?
:scrutiny: Uh, I don't know but don't forget to take me with you Saturday!

Stickman, I don't think you can have ANY loaded weapons in there unless you are firing at the range. I saw them putting ties on some guns when I went in last year. (I didn't take any guns in last year. )

I am pretty sure those are the rules. You are not searched AFAIK for CCW weapons. - No metal detectors or anything that I could see.

They asked me if I had any firearms. I didn't.

YMMV

Knob Creek is a COLD range. Loading is done only on the line. There were signs all over the place this past October.

my two cents

Fahchrissake! Some of you folks are as bad as the zero tolerance ????weeds who are ruining our schools!

1. It's a range. I'll bet YOUR home range has a "no loaded weapons except on the firing line" policy. Deal with it.

2. It's a gun show. They don't want stupid people doing stupid things, or even smart people doing stupid things. That happens, and it only takes ONE nasty incident to close the place down. Deal with it.

3. It's private property. It's Kenny's rules. Deal with it. And don't even THINK about blowing up one of his outhouses.

4. It's the BIGGEST Class III event in the country. I don't think that anyone has to worry about muggers, thieves, or even the dreaded mutant zombies.
