I've read some other threads and articles about this, but I'm just trying to find a simple, basic, functional and not necessarily historically accurate sling for my Springfield Model 1899. It has the sling loops attached. I'm looking for something that can be used to assist shooting and potential carrying the rifle, and preferably something basic that can be bought via Amazon Prime. I am a new shooter, so I'm not familiar with attaching a sling to a rifle that already has sling loops. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

IMA (International Military Antiques or some such) or World War Supply, Amazon, even Ebay. The 1887 Springfield Trapdoor/Krag Sling is narrower than the 1907 Springfield 1903 (and others) sling and fits the sling swivels for the Krag. Originals are really expensive. You can sling up for sharpshooting with these if that is what you want.

BTW, the original Mills tropical sling for the Krag resembles closely the Lee-Enfield cloth slings (you might even say identical) used in WWI and WWII. I also suspect you could use the leather WWI P14 Enfield and SMLE sling but I haven't measured the width of mine. You can get these really inexpensively if all you want is a sling (try Sarco or any of the above). The better ones are stiffer and use doubled material.

Thanks for the great information! I'm just going to order a reproduction 1887 Springfield Trapdoor sling. And then learn how to shoot with a sling off-hand...
