Krinkov Muzzlebrake for AK?

I found a place that was selling US made Krinkov style muzzlebrakes for AK's for only $12. Well, I had to get one even though I know nothing about their performance.
Do any of you folks have experience with one? How well do they tame muzzle rise? How about flash suppression capabilities?
They sure look cool... like an old machine gun.

Those $12 "krink style brakes" do nothing but look cool and provide a 922r part. They provide no functionality beyond that.

Better to buy a real Krink brake (or an accurate US made copy) and use it with a 14x1LH to 24mm adapter.

My understanding is that a real krinkov brake will not fit onto standard 14mm reverse threads without an adapter. The ones that DO fit are just decoration.

I see... its still a bit difficult to see what the real performance difference is between the real and the knock off. They both have the same ports on top, and are virtually identical in size and shape. Am I missing something?

I think you'd get much better performance as a muzzle brake/comp out of an AK-74 style brake than from a Krinkov/AKSU style anyway, unless you really had an SBR that needed the AKSU style.

I agree that the Krinks in general really only come into their own performance wise on an SBR. I have one on an AR with a 11.5" barrel and it made a world of difference.

Maybe. A 'real' krink has more than just the cone shape on the end. The internal geometry promotes backpressure for more reliability from SBRs. The fake ones I've seen are just chunks of metal with no expansion chamber.

Those Krink "brakes" are actually boosters, meant to add pressure to the gas piston, like TexasRifleman says. The little bit of flash suppression they provide is something of an afterthought, and they don't function at all as a muzzle brake. If you want a good muzzle brake, find an AK74 style or an AMD brake (or for a non-commie option, a J-TAC brake).

KBintheSLC, everything that has been said about the $12 "krink brake" goes the same for the 14x1LH threaded $[10-20] "ak74 style brake".

Both are 922r compliant decorations.

If you want a muzzle device that actually works, you'll need to look for expansion chambers and staggered vent holes along with a 24mm thread. These traits are not found in the cheapies.


OTOH, if you only need 922r compliance but don't want a slant brake, cheap is better than expensive.

I figured it must be something internal that made the difference... since the exterior aspects appear to be the same. Since I am using it on a 16" barrel, I don't think it is what I am looking for.

I beg to differ. I installed a copy of a Krinkov brake on a 12.5" barrel. There are two holes drilled in the expansion chamber at 90degree angles. It also screwed right onto a threaded 7.62 x 39 barrel.

And the pistol is controlable even with only one hand. Best of all is the flash suppression, making a small and dim orange sized flash when it was almost basketball sized with the original brake. Kind of made my most impractical firearm purchse into a decent defensive weapon.
