has anyone else heard this? seems with the military going to the new round lake city is going to stop producing 5.56 ammo. with our military being as efficient at such changes as they have been I can't envision this coming to pass for years, but who knows? I guess I'd best start scouring the range for brass now.

Like Turkeytider says, they'll make them just not for us.

No.
This is the sort of "telephone" our community is especially guilty of.

First off, the "new" 6.8x51 is still experimental. All claims of full-on replacement are just that "claims."
Even if the 13# XM-5 does see adoption (versus the 7.5# M-4), DoD has already stated that 5.56nato and M-4 will be retained for rear echelon troops.

So, dot gov will require 5.56nato for some long time now. Olin-Winchester is under contract to make millions at just Lake City alone.

Funny, I've got a bunch of LC salvaged fired brass but I don't think I've every fired a single round of their stuff. My blasting 5.56 stockpile is all generic FMJ from Winchester, Federal and Fiocchi.

It's a non-issue for me and now I'm curious: how important is LC production 5.56 ammo to others in this forum?

I like their brass for reloading my blasting ammo is all. ain't used store bought since the price jump. Others tho might feel differently as I always find plenty of brass laying around.

It would be interesting to know if LC sells surplus 5.56 and .223 to other companies to be sold under other brand names. The only one that I`m familiar with personally is the Frontier brand for Hornady. I would think that there would be others(?).
