Is anyone familiar with the Lapua 7.62X39 ammunition. I know Lapua is generally quite good stuff, but I am used to seeing the typical Wolf debates in this caliber.

Anyone use it? How much does it typically run? I have an idea of the pricing for Wolf steel cased stuff, but don't have a clue about brass cased Lapua.

Thanks for your input.

The only advantages I could possibly see is that it might burn a little cleaner and maybe be a little more accurate. A quick search looks like about 33 cents a round. Probably not worth it for plinking in a Russian-type gun.

I bought two boxes awhile back, and put it through my Russian SKS. I was amazed at how much better the rifle shot. It's way too expensive for blasting, and probably better off used in a Ruger or CZ boltgun, but I felt like risking the forty bucks just to see. Noticeably more accurate, maybe twoish inch groups at a hundred yards.

DolanP, Thank you for the information. I apparently don't know where to search. I didn't seem to have any luck finding anything on it.

Vaarok, Thanks. I had heard they made some good stuff. Didn't realize it was that much more than the "Cheap Stuff" though. Might get some "just to see" as you put it.

Although it is probably not worth reloading 7.62x39, if that is what you have in mind, Lapua is decent brass. I think it uses large rifle primers instead of small. For an AK-47 or Mini-30, you could get by with any brass case with one hole in the primer pocket, and most are less expensive than Lapua.

I don't know anything about Lapua 7.62x39 but I would THINK that a soft point or hollowpoint round from them would have a higher quality bullet and be better for hunting than plain jane Wolf Classic or whatever they call the old lacquer cased issue ammo.

I was wrong, I don't see anything on their website about 7.62x39 in anything but FMJ.
