A buddy of mine has HUGE hands. He wears XL gloves only because he can't find XXL. He has a J frame that he'd like to carry. He has a hard time shooting it well because when he grips the gun with the web of his hand high on the backstrap, it's too difficult to fire the gun double action. We tried it with my J frame with Hogue grips, and it's still too small.

He has a Ruger Security Six with Pachmayr grips, and fires it double action without issues, so it is possible with a larger grip.

What's the largest J frame grip out there? I'm going to try the Ergogrip Delta, but I'm wondering if there are other solutions?

Thanks,

-John

My answer is to carry his Security Six. I have seen guys put K frame size grips on a J frame. If you're going to do that you may as well carry the larger gun.

Yeah I gotta agree with post #2.

I wear size XL gloves, and they fit me fine. But I got rid of my j frame because there are better options, like the XDs I now carry.

Sorry for the answer to the question you didn't ask, but I doubt you are going to find him anything that works it his hands are that big.

The Pachmayr Compact grips for the J frame are pretty chunky and fit most big hands well. I love 'em.

S&W J-frame Target grips,,,

The grips on the Model 63 (right side) are S&W J-frame target grips,,,
You can see how much longer they are than standard J-frame grips of the Model 34 (left side).

I have been told that these grips are called S&W J-frame Target grips.

They make my J-frame feel exactly like a K-frame.

Thanks, fellas. I tried to get the Ergogrip, but they're out of stock.

The only problem with my buddy carrying his Security Six is that it has a 6 inch barrel. I guess if he runs out of bullets, he can club an elephant to death with it.

In the meantime, I'll keep checking on the Ergogrip.

Thanks,

-John

I have huge hands also, I shoot an old model 60 with a set of Houge rubber grips. They work great for me.

I carry my Smith and Wesson 638 Lightweight Bodyguard .38 with Pachmyer Compac grips. They are larger than the stock boot grips or my Hogue boot grips, but not so large you can't easily conceal the revolver. I also like the fact that the Compac grip covers the back strap and cuts down on recoil. It also fills your hand much better.

Just to toss out another suggestion is the Pachmayr Decelerator grip for J-frames:

http://www.amazon.com/Pachmayr-Decelerator-Grips-Frame-Round/dp/B000RYU20C

A consistent observation among the user reviews is that it adds bulk to the J-frame -- which is what I guess is desired. :)

I have a Hogue monogrip on one of my J-frames, but I'm thinking of switching to either the Pachmayr Compac or Decelerator...

.

The Pachmayr Decelerator grips look very much like the old Gripper style grips they use to carry. I had a pair like that for my Colt Agent but thought they were too big for concealed carry. Same with the Pachmayr Compac grips.

Herretts Gun Stocks

Upon ordering they want you to trace your
hand on a piece of paper and send that in
so they will make it for that size hand.

They offer some for revolvers, the Jordan Trooper
was designed by/named for Bill Jordan.

I've been wanting some for my J-Frame
3" Bbl. W&E adj. rear sight in .357 Mag.

Great tip on the Pachmayr Decelerator. I'm going to check that out.

Thanks,

S&W has "full size" rubber grips with their logo made for them. It is about 3/4" longer than their boot grips. I ordered one from S&W for my 940 and it fits medium sized hand very well.

Pabloj - the longer S&E rubber grip
comes stock on the Model 60 3" Bbl.
with the W&E adj. rear sight - it's what came with mine.
but it doesn't fill that area behind the trigger
guard - llike a T-Grip or aftermarket grip does

Check here:

they have some pretty hefty combats
The key to handfilling grips on a J-frame is to get some that are 'closed-backed.' In other words, they cover the backstrap. The grips on the noted site that are labeled 'oversize' meet this criteria. I have some and they are great! These are NOT for pocket carry, but work great on a field or target gun, or a ccw carried on the belt.

Pachmayr used to make a Presentation grip for the J frame that was real close to a K frame size. Check the Gun Shows in your area for new old stock of grips may find one for $10.

I've thought about this, I have big hands too.

I've concluded that I'll never waste money on a J frame, my hands are just too big.
Unless I put huge grips on it, which would look foolish and defeat the purpose of a very small J framed gun.

He should try a K frame with a 2" barrel. IWB with grips and a frame that'll fit those mitts better. Jmho.
