But you won't be allowed to CCW.

Shung, about how much does 500 rounds of .22 cost over there? (Assuming they are sold in 500 round bricks over there, like they usually are here.)

Thanks for the replies, Shung. And sorry I didn't see your earlier posts!

But have fun with the new toys :)

Quick question, just wondering, can you guys buy modern tanks around there? I understand they would probably be useless in such a mountainous (and beautiful) country, but still

as you said, no problem for artillery canons, AAA canons or machineguns etc.. AS for tank, I guess it's possible, but personally I don't know anyone that does. Maybe because they cost a lot..
but when the army get rid or gear, they often sell it in surplus sales, in which you can find those kind of things (vehicles, artillery etc)

in Switzerland, and europe, the ammo is more expensive than in the USA..

if you buy 100 rounds of CCI Standard velocitiy, it will cost you around 10$

if you buy 1000 at a time, it will cost you maybe 80$

if you buy 10 000 maybe only 60$, or 55$

other examples. a simple 50box of 9mm parabellum (Magtech, sellier&bellot etc) will cost you more than 15$ ..

but if you buy a 1000 of them, maybe they will only cost 8$ for each 50 rounds..

a single box of .45 ACP is over 25$ . price drop when you buy more, of course.

I reload most calibers (.357, 44-40, 45ACP, 30-06, 45-120), exept 9mm (which is not really worth it) and 5.56. I buy GP90, match grade 5.56military ammo, which can be purchased in military ranges or shooting societies, and which is "sponsorized" by the confederation, and only cost 16$ for 50 rounds. Same price applies on military GP11 (7.5 Swiss) or 7.65 or even military 9mm.

those are the prices. But don't forget that the average income in Switzerland (even if we than pay a lot of taxes and insurances etc) is higher than in most of the USA.

Shung, you can carry in switzerland, it is just hard to get the permit but not impossible.

its on a may-issue base, at least here in zurich.
"all" you have to do is prove to your Police that you need a gun for your job or protection of your self or others.
the Police actualy accepts those fairly quick, the only problem is that the Police also has to ask your local municipal office if "there are any reasons that one should not get a Permit", if the guys at pro-gun, you get the Permit, if they are Anti-gun you wont.
get buddy-buddy with a guy there and your get the Permit.

also good reasons: hunting, they are more inclined to give you a carrypermit for a handgun if you tell them that you go hunting and since you live near the france border, you came across "questionable" peoples more then once.

be a bit creative, its hard, but not impossible. ;)

Ok.. it's not impossible.. it's highly improbable..

Shung, you can carry in switzerland, it is just hard to get the permit but not impossible.

that is a fool trap... the law still says you could, but the facts PROOVE that you cannot anymore. :banghead:

In Geneva, less than 5 non-professionals get to carry.. over more than 400 000 thousands people. :banghead:

you have to proove that you are immediately endangered by a lethal threat, so you need to protect yourself, or that you are SOOO wealthy that you might get threathened for your money..:cuss:

so, every time, it's a NO GO ! :banghead:

And about your idea about hunting, let me remind you that its more than 20 years that the communist republic of Geneva, lobbied and voted to make ANY hunt illegal in the Canton.(exept for wildlife pro) ;)

move to Zurich then, i know several peoples that have a Carry Permit here, most of them Hunters.

the only thing you have to make sure here is that you are buddy-buddy with the municipal officer that handels the request on the Political side.

my daughter lives in Zurich. is it impossible for her to get a gun to me in the states? something like an uber FFL? Thanks...johnny

I am sincerly happy that some Swiss citizen still can carry, really, and I hope you can as well.

but sorry to say that such a system sucks with a capital "S" .. it's totally unfair and undemocratic.. but I guess that is what leftiest in Switzerland really want and push to..

Keep up the fight compatriot ! ;)

I'll start considering moving to Zurich when my Schwitzerdutch get better ;) Another 2 or 3 years in the Army and it will do ;)

Swiss Citizens can virually export any guns.. (cost is around 150$, without the shipping cost that must than be carried out by a special transporter like UPS FEDEX or so..)

The real matter will be US laws about importations.

but if there a gun that you really like in Switzerland and for which US laws have nothing against importation, you could do it. (btw, what is an über FFL ? )

it should not be mutch of a problem to get the guns out of switzerland, bur rather if they are allowed to enter the USA.
i know for a fact that gunstores here in switzerland are willing to ship to the USA, but they do not take any responsibility that the firearms go past the US customs.
you will have to pay horrendous Taxes somewhere in the range of price+80-100% additional tax and i still is not certain that it will go past customs.. and if it does not you lost up to 6000$.

also, guns are often very pricey here compared to the USA.

well, the SP is loosing ground of all fronts and the SVP, FDP and the BDP (to some extend) are gunfriendly partys.
only problem is that the greens also gain ground.

time will tell i guess. :)

also, you might want to drop some of the swearing out of the schweizerdeutsch if you learn it in the Army.. :p

Thanks, Shung! I'll try that. BTW, we visited her and the Swiss/Italian Alps and I didn't want to come back! Shooting..chocolet and cheese! :O)

If you ever need help, just PM me. As a foreigner, i am not sure your daughter can make the gun buy and export papers, but i sure could ! (if importation is possible in the US, but I fear that to be a world of pain )

Shung:

Thanks for the pics and your patinece when constantly asked to expalin the laws, we are ussually under the impression that all guns are banned in Europe. Have fun with those and don't give up the fight to reinstate concealed carry.

Shung is the man

Shung thanks for the cleaning kit. It will make a nice accessory to my new Sig 551.

I still am amazed at the variety of weapons at the Lausanne Gunshow. I saw Marlins next to Garands next to 550 snipers. Frankly I am also envious of the ability to drink a good Euro beer while shopping at the gun shows!!

Shung is a great host, he let me shoot his Stg 90 when I went over earlier this year. Very cool!! I also shot the stg 57 and their former straight pull service rifle.

Thanks Shung, so many forums so little time.

Did you see any Sig P210's for sale, what do they typically sell for there?

Any nice lugers?

Was that new Slovak Grand Power machine pistol (~GP102R) available for sale there?

many many... Usually from 800 to 1300 depending the conditions, for non expensive versions. One day I will buy one, but I don't really like the shape of this gun, even it's a POINT MACHINE.

Any nice lugers?

Oh yeah.. My friend Gn'r bought one.. I am not Luger expert, but he told me that the one he founds usually worth more than twice the price he paid for it. I will ask him some pictures.

Maybe.. but I have to admit that I didnt see any of them.
