LCP Trigger Pull?

I hear more bitches about the long heavy trigger on the LCP than the kelTec
Buy the KelTec We have 4 and they have all been reliable I carry one, wife has 2 and now daughter has 1 . Guess who got to pay for them

I have fired them side by side. Both have a crapy long heavy trigger pull. I own a Ruger.
They also hurt the palm of my hand after about 10 rounds.
They are not range guns.
At 10 feet they do what they are suppose to do. Stop the threat.

I've only shot the Ruger, it seemed like I was pulling the trigger for a half hour before it fired. I agree, not a range gun, I took it and cycled 100 rounds through it in a single visit and damn that thing makes your paw hurt something awful.
I'll carry it when that sized gun is the only option I have, I prefer my SR-9 C if possible.

7 shot derringers
(but do beat the snot out of a black widow or 25acp, IMO)
bites the web of my hand, 10 or 20 rounds doesn't bother me, but 50 hurts
not easy guns to shoot really really well
the Crimson trace did not really help me with that, just extra visual feedback on what the holes in paper already show (I pull bad low w/ the long pull & too little handle, so aim for head if in a hurry to hit chest at 10 yards)... for me, laser button hits finger on joint crease, which made the laser activation a tad awkward, I took it off, useless extra bulk on a gun solely intended to be less bulk
the LCP has been extremely reliable for me, plain FMJ, no FTF/FTE
I feel no need of boutique ammo out of so little barrel, KISS, reliable
still, so overwhelming easy and convenient to carry, I do oft carry it
sidenote -
for those ok w/ 32acp (another buddy has one), I think the Tomcat shoots easier/better
I would attribute that to trigger, of course
the great thing about shootin' buddies, is shooting a lot of stuff you don't have to own

Funny you mentioned that "Aim for the head to hit the chest", thats been my experiance with my P11 and P32! The P3AT I shot was dead on POA, the first for me with any Keltec. Either my trigger controle is better than it was, or the gun just shot better for me

yup, hand fit is a very personal thing
which is a huge part of why I choose other (all steel Colt 380) as my primary if/when feeling a little more concerned about myself
my buddy really did get really good with his KelTec 380... but only after putting enough rounds downrange to rebuild the gun at least once, maybe twice
but, for me, the LCP is a "poker table width" tool of last resort, and I just won't put that much time and effort into it.. (still handy and convenient, though)
got too many others to enjoy range day with, to work that hard on one that doesn't naturally point to target and stay on target, that's all

LCP has an 8lb trigger.
P-3AT has a trigger pull around 5-6 lbs.

I did find that installing the Ruger Magazine Bottom Plate with the black plastic one which extends further down gave me one more finger on the purchase of the grip. When you are talking 1.5 fingers to begin with and can add one full finger, that is a 75% improvement over the OEM smaller bottoms (according to my calculations, I could be off, but the figure seems correct).
Since I have a total of four LCP Magazines, and since the extended bottom plates are sold two to a pack, they all worked out well for me.
I shoot my own ammo, and it may be calmed down just a bit, as I could shoot hundreds of rounds (if I wanted to) without any problems with my hands, at all!

Let us know your thoughts after you shoot it please. My buddy had the P-3AT and loved it, but hadto have the LCP as he is a huge Ruger fan, and was especially enamored of the slide locking open after the last shot.
What he decided was that the LCP being so sssmmmooottthhh in comparison to the Kel-Tec was that the LCP tended to twist around in his hand after every shot, but the "rougher" finish of the Kel-Tec, kept the pistol in place when firiing; actually, we both came to the same conclusion.

When and if the time comes you have to shoot the sucker in defense of your life you won't be hindered in the least by a heavy trigger pull... During a crisis raging adrenalin has a wonderful way of taking care of such problems.
The upside to a heavy trigger pull in such a weapon is that you are less likely to shoot yourself in the butt, thigh, foot, side, by an accidental discharge drawing your weapon in your defense.
I had a P32 in years past, it was always reliable and reasonably accurate.. I have two LCP's now (and my wife has a 3rd) all three of which have performed perfectly right out of the box.
I bought a Ruger over a KelTec simply because I've owned Rugers of one sort or another for decades, and never been disappointed.. Had I a long term similar history with KelTec I would happily have bought a P3AT instead.

If you like KelTec firearms, buy ya a P3AT.. If you like Rugers, buy an LCP.. I'm betting either will serve you quite well in the job for which they were designed.

I just bought a Ruger LCP last week, and went shooting with a friend who carries the Kel Tec P3AT. We both shot them, and came to similar conclusions. The triggers feel identical, also the weight. I know the manufacturer's claim different trigger pulls and weights. But field testing just didn't bear this out. Both guns ran well without failures of any kind (even though the Ruger was new)
If you can shoot double action triggers well, these are surprisingly accurate little guns.
They are both good CCW guns. Buy the one that fits your hand best. (The Ruger is a little more refined, while the Kel Tec has better checkering)

Got out and put some rounds through it today and I'm very impressed!
No issues, no problem keeping all shots on a 8" paper plate rapid firing at 21'. Still has the KT Trigger slap, but I didn't find the gun slippery, or hard to controle. First mouse gun that I've owned that shoots to POA, not 8" low at 21'
Now finding your brass to reload is another story. They fly in every dirrection, mostly to 1 O'clock, but some at 9, 5, it goes everywhere!!

I need to test mine, it doesn't feel near that heavy.As far as the length of trigger pull goes, I wouldn't have it any other way on a pocket gun with no safety!

If there is any difference in the trigger it's so little as to be unnoticeable.
I've had the P3AT since they first came out. Pocket carried it for a long time.
I'm a big laser fan and especially since the sights are so bad, I put a ARMA laser on the gun.
It makes for a fairly fast accurate pocket gun.
I've recently bought a Ruger "Coyote Special".
I've had such bad luck lately with a SIG P238 and Diamondback that I was very pleasantly surprised with the Ruger LCP.
I've put a mixed bag of over a hundred rounds through it with no problems at all. With a Crimson Trace laser it's now my first choice pocket carry gun but I still want to run a couple hundred more rounds through it.
It has decent sights and is right accurate.
These targets are before I got the Crimson Trace laser. The groups now are smaller and the speed is faster with the laser.
If there is any difference in the trigger it's so little as to be unnoticeable.

I have a p3a3 and I have shot a ruger. Mine has a trigger shoe and it makes a big difference. IMHO I think the p3a3 has a better trigger. I put the shoe on the ruger and it was just the same, long and heavy.
