I'm looking for a good leak-proof gun mat to use to clean my weapons and haven't found any yet.

I found one by Gander and it leaked. I thought it might have been a bad one so I bought another Gander one, that one also leaked. I then found one by Cabelas and bought that. However, I suspected it was the same brand and it ended up being so. (Although the Cabelas one was named Cabelas, it was obviously made by this company as are a lot of Cabelas products.)

This is the one. It is made by RPM inc. and is named "Dry Mate".

Does anyone know of a good gun mat like this that won't leak?

I would get a metal pan and just line is with cloth or paper towel. That way it has a lip and is easy to clean.
Walmart sells a big one in the automotive section for about $10.00. If that is too big you might find a better sized one at a bargain store.

The stuff used to line the bottoms of tool boxes will more than likely work. It shouldn't leak and is also a good surface to set guns on as it is padded. There's more than one grade and the better material is what I'm thinking of. The el cheapo stuff could conceivably leak. It's not cheap but you do get a lot of it.

I bought one at the gun show about a year ago. It has the exploaded breakdown diagram of a Glock printed on it. Found another larger one for my AR (with a diagram of the AR) they have rubber bottoms and can be sprayed off with a hose if they get too dirty. I have one for every gun now. Just took some time to find them all.

They're like $10 each (handgun pads are about 1' x 2' if I had to guess)

That's what I use. I think Brownells carries several models (different exploded diagrams and sizes). I spilled some hoppes on it a few days ago and nothing soaked through.

I use a beach towel - folded in half, then folded in half again, and then sometimes, even folded in half again

Gives me a nice large work area on my desk and NOTHING has ever leaked through all those layers of terrycloth.

Makes a nice soft pad too.

Throw it in the washer/dryer with the other gun-rags when it needs it.

I use freebie tabloid "news" papers that list movies and restaurants and bars and the like. One or two of those soak up everything before it reaches the kitchen counter*, and can be rolled up and discarded with ease.

* Don't even think about cleaning guns on the kitchen counter if you're married.

i use the absorbent mats used for oil spills in garages and industrial plants. you can pour motor oil on them and it will soak in without dripping. amazing stuff. i checked advance auto parts has some cheap.

I also use a couple old beach towels. However, I place a plastic trash bag between the table and the towels. Any spill the towels don't soak up initially, the bag stops before it messes up the Mrs.' table. Been using this method for over 25 years and haven't had a problem yet. The bags are still good to hold trash and I just throw the towels in the wash.

I do it all the time. LOL :D

If I'm lucky I can also get my wife to hold the camera.

Are these re-usable or do you throw them away after each time?

Check Brownells. I bought just such a mat years ago--it is flexible, leakproof, and even has 'partitions' into it for containing small parts.

My daughter bought puppy training pads for her dog. They didn't do squat as far as training that dog goes but I find them to be fantastic for cleaning guns. One pad lasts for multiple cleanings and they haven't leaked on me yet.

I use a rubber car/truck floor mat. Totally leak proof, the small recesses catch all small parts. Hose it off if you feel the need.
