My feelings as well toward the 270 Win - The Dodge Caravan of rifle cartridges

Not now, IAW the 6.5C fanboys hunting with a .270 is going primitive, almost like the recurve bow guys...

Too much recoil and too slow of a twist to be practical. I'm waiting for KS to open a special season for them...

.22 Rimfire Magnum It disappointed me as far as quick-killing ability goes. Trajectory wasn't a big improvement over .22 LR.

Conversely, I like the .17 HMR better, even though that cartridge is way behind the .223 Rem in killing power. I think it also shoots more accurately than the .22 WMR.

Yup, but my .17HMR literally explodes starlings in the current bushes behind the garden. Like a .223 Rem (which I don't have) my .22-250 would explode them too - with a lot more noise and fuss though.

savage 110 in 25-06. rifle had cheap plastic stock I replaced it with a boyds hunter. thing was extremely picky about ammo, and zero wandered after 2 or 3 shots. It is currently in pieces waiting for a new 270win barrel and timmney trigger to arrive.

I have a first generation Savage "Scout" with the tupperware stock, and no one makes a replacement for it so far as I am aware. The metal - and the .308 - are fine for what they are, but the whole concept is ruined by the stock.

I suppose I really don’t enjoy the M1 Carbine, nor the 30 Carbine which it fires. When they were inexpensive and ammo plentiful and even more inexpensive, they were fun, but those days are long passed.

I do really enjoy milsurps but when it comes to the M1 carbine I feel the same way. I don’t own one but have handled a few. They feel cheap to me. They were cheap, back in the day, by design. And they used to be very affordable, and no doubt a lot of fun to go out and just shoot stuff. But when the gun is now comfortably over $1000, and a can of ammo is usually $600 or so….. if you can find one… I lose all interest in getting a carbine. A .22 accomplishes much the same thing for a lot less money, and from a historical perspective the carbine was always a second-string weapon anyway.

I sold my AK-74 a year or so ago. I bought it in 2012 when it was possible to get big spam cans of surplus ammo for very little. Those days are gone. 5.45 does almost nothing that 5.56 can’t do, is now less often seen and usually no cheaper, and my particular ‘74 had issues with rusting receiver rails. Moving it along was the right thing to do.

They might, but the thing was designed around a detachable magazine. Any of the aftermarket bits probably reduce it to a single shot.

I doubt there was any actual change to the receiver to accommodate the magazine. There are lots of Savage stock available that will accommodate detachable magazines.

I would be delighted if you can link to one that fits. I suspect you are not familiar with the rifle, though.

I know what it is. Short action savage with a 10 round mag, and Williams peep sight on the back of the receiver. The receiver itself is the same as any other short action savage so it will fit in any aftermarket stock for a short action savage. Do you want one that uses the original savage mags or AICS mags? Is yours a top or bottom bolt release?

Most of that is incorrect. You're thinking of a different gun.

is this what you have? If not why don’t you come out with it so we can end this dreadful guessing and find you a stock you like. I’m trying to help you but if your going to be intentionally difficult then forget it.

As noted in the original post, it's a first generation Scout, which is much different from the gun you are thinking of. It is decades old, has been discontinued for many years, and no one made stocks for it even at the time. I can't imagine why anybody would offer one now.

That is also a 1st generation Savage scout. They came out with that one like 10 years ago and then made a gen 2 that takes AICS mags maybe 3 years ago. Can you give me any other details on what we are dealing with here? If your going to make me guess I’m done. They make stocks for all the 110 and 10 model Savage bolt actions going back to the 60’s. Might have to change bottom metal from whatever you have.

You're offering unsolicited advice on a topic you don't understand. I'm done with it whether you are or not.

Enjoy your rifle, or rather continue not enjoying it. If you change your mind go to Savage central and post a picture of what you have and they will get you different stock.
