A hard roll crimp can definitely be hard on nickle plated. I wouldn't fault the brass, just look at it as a characteristic and use plain brass for the application or use less crimp if it will work.
The problem I have with nickel plated brass is that the inside surfaces seem slick and I get no pull resistance. With the same die setup that works fine with the thinnest brass cases I have the bullet pushes into the case easily when I use nickle plated. This is using .357" plated bullets and a taper crimp. I'm not attempting to reload nickle at present.
I don't use much nickle plated. I do use it for my full power .357 Mag loads, just to differentiate it easily from other stuff and not waste the free range brass.
You mentioned "Anyway my sizing die in 357 is scratching the brass all the way around the case". All around the circumference? If so, this not a indication of an embedded or cracked carbide ring. Have any pics of the scratched brass?
